Freelancer

Never really played it much for the multiplayer (apart from a couple of LAN games with mates) but have played the campaign a few times. Reinstalled it again some months ago and played for a bit but, with so many games in my library, keep getting distracted. I did install a mod for it (Jason's Freelancer Patch). No idea if it it's any good as I didn't play for long enough/take a lot of notice.

That actually seems to be having the opposite impact. It seems like more money they have the bigger scope gets and more they drag their feet.

I remember years ago either PC Gamer or PC Zone did a double page spread on Chris Roberts failure on whatever project he was working on then.

Interestingly he has a pretty decent resume for film production - maybe he should stick to that (EDIT: Oh I see there was dodgy money involved so he had to get out of that).

If it was around 2000-2003, then that was Freelancer.
Eventually Microsoft ousted him, just so they'd get something that was finished enough to release... which it did 3 years late and with numerous features missing.

Could be - it certainly wouldn't have been after 2003 as I stopped my magazine subscriptions around then when I moved out of my parent's house.

Wow, I didn't expect to open this forum and see a thread for Freelancer on the first page. What a throwback. I loved this game and I'm still waiting for something that hits the same spot. So many space games manage to make freelancing so boring.

There ain't anything. Closest is Everspace 2 but that ain't quite the same and they want silly moneys for it right now so I will wait until it is sub £20.

Install the HD mod and play again. I am enjoying it myself.

Gave it a replay a while back but got stuck at some mission where you need to wait around until a gate opens but there's a massive fleet that kills u before u get to the gate.

I remember it being an issue when I originally played it, but this time round I didn't have the patience to keep trying.

Will see how it goes. Last I played it was 10 years ago so I remember very little. Certainly don't remember a fleet.
