Fuel up/down again

Always used Momentum99, Shell is quite a bit dearer and I don't experience any difference.

On the topic of pump fuel, why do we not get E85 over here? Been reading a lot of stuff out of Aus about SR tuning and E85 is very popular there. They are making way more power on corn juice over 98 unleaded, it's almost unbelievable.

I'm sure that Morrison's used to sell it in 2007/8. I noticed in San Antonio, Texas today that E85 is the same price as 91 AKI. Apparently you use a lot more of the stuff, but as you say, the performance benefits are huge.

the legislation isn't there so fuel production haven't incurred the cost for no reason, sort of glad for it. I don't want any fuel line rot

I don't think anyone actually publishes the amount or make up of their additives do they?

Just to back track a little to this, the company I work works closely with one of the main companies that petrol stations buy fuel from in the UK. I've done work on their sites a few times and spoken to the people who work there.

As far as additives go most of them are very similar, what you are paying for with Shell is consistency - they are far more fussy with what they will accept.

E.G. Supermarkets are happy if all their fuel over a month is 95% correctly mixed, some tankers may leave with no additive at all and some may be over as long as the overall amounts are correct.

Shell tankers will only leave the depot if the load on each tanker is at least 95% correct reducing the error margin greatly.

It doesn't sound like a lot, but over thousands of litres of fuel it can make a massive difference.

Because no cars are developed for it. You may get a power benefit but it contains much less energy so it's MPG isn't great. 33MJ/kg vs 45 for petrol. E85 has always been known to make more since the exige R or Konigseggs that have a ethanol sensor. Most fuel in Uk has ethanol but no one wants to give away octane so it's mixed with pretty crappy base fuel to get the 95/98RON minimum

Americans love corn. That's why everything has high fructose corn syrup rather than sugar.

Oh yeah you need a flex equipped management for it, but it can take a lot more ignition advance and more boost pressure safely = considerable torque advantage all across the rev range. Considering most cars are turbocharged now, the tuning potential is great.

I think everyone is bored of the American price updates now. We get it, your fuel is cheap :p

Yep indeed and It'd also be more useful if people used the thread to post deals/offers etc rather than random prices from all over the country.

For example right now Amex have a £5 credit for every £50 spent at Esso, that's sub £1fuel, check your Amex offers everyone (unfortunately not all cards will have it)
