Fuji X Series

With the 50mm f2, why does it have to be more than the 35mm f2 is my beef. Yes it is half the price of the 56...that's the whole point. It's meant to make 50mm more accommodating to more people by pitching it near towhere the 35 f2 was priced at. I still personally think the 35 at £349 is overpriced. Should be £250 as the 35 f1.4 was meant to be the more premium lens (despite older and slower AF) but they are close in price.

Yeah basically I'm just a moaner and wanted the 50 f2 for cheap! Seriously though, I can't justify that price for that lens. It's over priced.

Yeah, £450 is quite a lot when you consider it was possible to get the old Nikon and Canon nifties for what, £160?

Show me a single other major lens manufacturer where the 85mm and 35mm are the same price as the 50mm (speaking in terms of equivalents, of course)? The 50mm is almost always cheaper due to the simpler optical design, hence why it's known as the "nifty fifty".

Anyway, your choice I guess!

Come on Scam, think about it a little. Canikon are huge companies that have been using the same mount for decades with a huge market of buyers. Fuji's X-system is in comparison only a few years old and they have a much more limited R&D budget as well as much more limited market share which means that clawing back the engineering costs is much more difficult, hence the higher average costs of some of the lenses.

Do the maths.

The 35 mm f2 is £310.00 and the 35 F1.4 is approaching £500 in many places. Don't blame you for wanting the 50 f2 for cheaper though.

I'm not really arguing as obviously X-series is a whole lot newer as you state. Just thought it interesting. Nikon is not really that big in comparison.

Yeah Fujifilm Optics co is huge, and reportedly one of the most advanced in terms of manufacturing. Also I believe they're the only lens manufacturer that doesn't outsource anything.

The Canon 50mm f1.8 uses lots of plastic, all glass elements, has a simple design and hits a sweet spot. Fuji lenses are made of premium materials and have more advanced designs. Admittedly they also have "Fuji" printed on them with it's associated markup :)

I'll admit I do get offended when a 50mm lens costs more than £80. lol
I remember when I bought my first DSLR and my mate went over to the US when the dollar was about 1.9. I got a load of gear for cheap. I swear the nifty fifty mk1 back then was about 80 dollars, i.e. under £50.
Which is....all meaningless now I know. :)
I'll still moan about it costing £450 though. :) Seriously not sure whether to just a 35mm f2 now second hand and have a play. I prefer 50mm on crop though.

If it helps at all I just got back from two weeks in Cuba. I took my XT10 with the 35/f2 (only lens I own) and the 14/f2.8 which I rented. The 35mm is a great walkabout for street shots etc, the occasional 'long' landscape and anything in between.

Whereas my girlfriend took her Canon 450D with the nifty only and was struggling to get anything more than street portraits.

I think 35mm is the more versatile length on crop to be honest, but it's an argument you can have all day, every day :)

You have to look at it in context, not as a whole company but by the company department, market share and development/engineering costs for each piece they make, as well as their ability to make those costs back and then turn a profit from a much smaller userbase. Fuji X mount is far, far younger than Nikon and it's well-established and mature F mount, and that affects costs all down the line. It's a bit more complex than: "This company is bigger so therefore everything should be cheaper". :)

Camera - dispatched
Spare batteries - dispatched
64G SD card - have one spare
LH XF 35-2 Lens Hood - dispatched
23mm/2.0 - Ordering tomorrow.

What case should I have? Or I might just chuck it with my Canon stuff...

Raymond- Weren't tempted by the X100/S/T?

There is a used one on sale in TP for £580.

I thought about it, it would work just the same but I kinda in a way like the opportunity to change lenses too. The overall cost between a X-Pro 1 + 23mm is £700. A X-100T is £580. It's a bit more but not on the grand scheme of things.

Also....The x-Pro 1 was like £1500 new and I like getting a bargain.

Yeah, Fuji is a bit of a breath of fresh air if all you have used are DSLR's. It isn't perfect, but it's damn good fun to shoot with and the EVF is an revelation. :)
Totally agree. The main thing I've found with my XT10 is that it's fun to shoot again. Might be new toy syndrome but hey.

Regarding Ex Pro, I have two batteries and the dual charger. However the charger went bang due to a power cut 9 days through my 15 day trip to Cuba  I never got through two batteries in a day so it's going back and I'll stick with the official charger.
