Fuji X Series

Guys what sort of ND do you use on those longer exposures? Interested in getting one to mess around with but don't want to spend too much.

After a recommendation from this very forum, I've had good use out of Camdiox 10 stoppers (used on 18mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.4) if they're still available.

Also have one for the 23mm but can't remember the brand- might be Camdiox too.

I got hold of a Gobe 10 stop filter a few weeks back and have to say i've been pretty impressed by it's quality. You can pick them up for around £25 and it's worth a shout if you want to try long exposures and not spend a lot of money.

Hi all,

I am fairly new to photography having bought a used Nikon DSLR D7000 around easter this year. I feel I made a mistake and should have gone mirrorless. I feel the DSLR system is old hat, not tilting screen, no focus peaking, no EVF so I can make sure the exposure is right live.

It all feels very 80's and I don't like using it.

I have an excuse to buy new now as I got promoted at work before Christmas so I am looking to treat myself.

I am a hobbiest with an interest in landscape photography and still very much a learner.

I like the Fuji XT-2 as it has tilting screen that can pitch vertically and horizontally, as proper dials/rings for ISO, apeture, shutter and exposure compensation. i don't want to faffing about in menu after menu so this looks a superb design.

How does this shopping basket sound:

XT-2 (body only)
10-24mm lens
Wine camera Company Filter system
Buy on1 PHOTO RAW 2018 for editing images

I really like my XT2. Are you planning on using it exclusively for landscape? The 10-24 is quite a specialist focal length range, and would perhaps be too limiting for other types of photography, or even some landscape work.

If you're coming from a d7000, I'd personally opt for the kit lens and see how you get on as it's pretty decent although obviously lacks the wide angle. You can always sell it and go for the 10-24 although I'd rather the 16-55.

Well I was sort of sensible.. ish.

I just went to Wex in Norwich and bought the following:

An ex-demo XT-1
10-24mm lens
Lee filter foundation kit
Lee Glass polariser
Lee Little Stopper
Lee big Stopper
lee filter pouch
Manfrotto 055 Pr03 tripod
Manfrotto Xpro ball head

I bought a vintage lens for portraits a few months ago so will use that for now.

Next autumn i will buy the 18-135 to complete my landscape lenses, then consider a fuji prime for portraits and something vintage for macro photography.

I have bought all this for landscapes/seascapes for now, I need a hobby to destress from work so got into photography.

The XT-1 is awesome, I tried it in the shop the EVF is amazing, it is huge compared to the XT-20. Really pleased with it, amazing to see histogram, focus peaking and live exposure view thingy. Totally blows away my DSLR. Mirrorless is amazing, I think it will be a joy to continue my learning as I see the results before I click the shutter.

Very happy, but my CC took a battering. :)

18mm is wide angle, just not ultra wide.

How much did you pay? It's a decent sensor, but don't forget 16MP allows very little cropping. Personally I would not go lower than 24MP for a camera, especially one used for landscapes.

Also the 18-135mm is, while convenient, optically one of the weakest lenses in the Fuji lineup.

£1,800 for the lot including £190 cashback on the lens.

Yeah I acknowledge i won't be cropping much, but that means I need to compose better in the field. After months of reading and googling various websites the consesus seemed to be that bodies come and go but lenses (and less so) tripods and filter systems stay for many many years. So I thought it sensible to invest more money in these over an Xt-2, which I won't get the best out of until I learn more, by that time the Xt-3 will be out and the XT-2 would have lost £600 in value.

This is just a hobby for me, so the 18-135mm i still supposed to be very good. I am never going to be a professional or entering competitions etc, its more fun and to destress from daily life.

I am thinking i will be shooting at the 14-18mm focual length (around the full frame focal length of 21-24mm ish), I think at least! the 18mm just wasn't wide enough but not too far off. I can't see me shooting much below 14mm.

Well the Xt-1 was broken, it wouldn't write to any SD cards and would never finish transfering a file.

I returned it and walked out with a graphite Xt-2 instead. It is outstanding, I am in total awe.

You were right, XT-2 or GTFO.

The Graphite is beautiful but I couldn't justify the price. However, given the double cashback offers available at the moment it's beginning to look more reasonable to buy a XPro 2 as opposed to the XE3, to use as a point and shoot and a backup to my XT2.

I got the graphite one, it was used (9/10 condition) i cannot see a mark on it. It was £150 cheaper than a new one after cashback so I took the saving. I love the graphite, it is beautiful.

I really want to get the X-Pro 2 for the styling look, especially now with the update, but something holds me back...
It's the next logical step for me until the arrival of the XT3 given the amount of money I invested in lenses. But I remember feeling the same about the look of the XPro 1 and Olympus XZ-2.

For the long exposure in my YT video of the waterfalls. I used a Gobe 10stop screw in filter. Excellent and cheap(ish). BUT.... it has a thin coating on it so be super careful. I did not know about it until I used a cloth to dry the filter after it got wet with spray from the fall. It seemed to cause some minor smudging on the glass.

I now have a 16-55mm f2.8 and ordered the Cokin P-series filter kit for it. I am yet to use it, but I will be back with a video review of it soon :)
