Funny Stuff Idiots Tell You About Cars...

haha

Reminds me of the time I met up with a few old friends, one of them was (is) a total idiot. Typical 'OMGLUKATMEGIRLZIMWELCOOL" kinda guy.

Him - "What's that?"
Me - "It's a Rover 220"
Him - "Cool. My mate had a Coupe. Is it fast?"
Me - "It's not bad. 136hp and 0-60 in around 8 seconds"
Him - "My Saxo VTR is quicker than that!"
Me - "Is it?"
Him - "Yeah. 7.3 seconds"

And another time I saw him (the night before the RR actually) he was going on about he kept up with an Evo V in his Fiesta RS Turbo. Apparently he was neck and neck. I couldn't be bothered arguing with him.

The last bit doesnt sound unbelievable tbh, 200+ bhp in a ~700kg car, once rolling it's gonna give it a bloody good run

a true 200+bhp cvh will have to of had a fair bit of cash thrown at it, not
"my mate dave tuned the boost up y0 tuning"
for starters the stock injectors wont see 200bhp, the turbo on the fiesta wont handle it either. so basically you will be looking at full efi conversion with larger injectors + larger turbo (usually t3 off a escort rst) and possibly some headwork with a decent mls head gasket.
O and mapping to suit.
not something your non car enthusiast would undertake.

totally genuine

"I don't like fuel injection, you can't play with it like you can with carbs"
overheard from someone at Uni, he also said

"you can make you own hydraulic fluid from anti-freeze and water"

and classic from my old flatmate
"I love the sound of carbs" adamant that fuel injected cars just didn't sound as good as ones on carburettors

I don't know about that one. Depending on what kind of setup we're talking here, carbs aren't exactly silent. A pair of Carter AFBs plonked on top of a Hemi can certainly be heard when you plant your foot. The six Webers on a some Ferrari V12s also can be heard loud and clear over the glorious sound of a proper Ferrari motor on full chat :)

Maybe he likes the sound of carbs guzzling fuel down like it's going out of fashion!

"you don't get flames with carbs"

edit: It was you only get flames with cabs.

Was saying you can't get them with new engines.

There's some sense in what he's chatting about but it was just the way he said it, on an identical motor carbs or injection would sound the same practically

his frame of reference (and his passion for some reason) is Peugeot 205's

i had a guy telling me about his drift monster 316i. when i told him i thought his car probably wasnt the drifting weapon he believed it to be, he gave me a short spiel about "it's powersliding innit mate".

i wandered off and talked to someone else.

which he is kinda right the 1.4 tu engine found in carb (205 xs) form sounds very different to the 1.4 tu engine in injection form (106 xsi)
the 205xs even sounds quite different if its with a stromberg or solex carb

I'll shut up then :p where I come from you just hear the wonderous burbling/roar of a V8, the rest is inconsequential, well cept the whistle of a roots blower atop a V8 hunting on alky

Think about it...

This was coming from the same guy who thought his Saxo VTR did 0-60 in 7 seconds ;)

not terribly funny but when I specced up my focus tdci sport a few years back the salesman told me if I took the "comfort" pack I would get the heated front screen and electric mirrors.

It turned up with the heated screen and manual mirrors so I refused to sign for it until they made it right.

He told me the diesel focus couldn't have electric mirrors because the doors are different and offered me a free service instead.

After I'd walked out of the garage and gone home (saying "fine, keep it :)" and leaving him with the car and no £16k (I got a loan not finance)) he called me about 15 minutes later to say the workshop had managed to design a workaround and the car would be ready in a week when they had ordered some "special" mirrors.

Collected it a week later with a big smile and totally normal electric mirrors.

I must have been wearing my moron tshirt when I went to collect it first time.
