Funny Stuff Idiots Tell You About Cars...

M54 > VTEC for sound*

*Except Simons S2000. OMG.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that. Any DOHC VTEC or i-VTEC lump sounds bags better at full chat than most beemer lumps to my ears.

"Your car is quicker with the rear seats folded down" :D

There was a thread about this on these very forums a while back. I think the outcome was that it does lower the centre of gravity marginally but not enough to make a blind bit of difference.

I must admit though that a hatchback does feel faster with the back seats down with all that empty space and the extra noise.

Don't be stupid, of course I know what I'm doing

These immortal words uttered by a friend of mine who thought he was competent enough to rebuild the top of a 200sx engine.

Something seemd odd as when he had fitted it back into the engine bay and proceed to put oil in, the oil came straight out again. Turns out he had put in back in UPSIDE DOWN

Watch this!

Said a mate attempting to do a doughnut in the works car park before blowing the gearbox of his Sapphire Cos to purgatory.

If your car is a Focus he's probably right - if you both decided to do a 15 mile trip you probably wouldn't leave him for dead - the power advantage required for that just isnt there. And its easier to follow than it is to lead. So yea, he probably could keep up in the real world.

I agree I wouldn't leave him for dead, but I'm going to have to disagree on the rest. The 1.6 feels gutless past 80, and is even more sluggish on the take off than the 2.0L. They are both very similar in weight, yet one has around 100 bhp, and the other 135-140.

It's also worth considering that he tried following me shortly after, and he wasn't in my rear view mirror for that long.

On most typical roads you wont be heading past 80 enough to make this an advantage.

We'll never know if this was skills or the car. I know that if you put Lopez in a 1.6 Focus I doubt I would lose him on a B road in my 530..

The guy I bought the old Vento off said "The brakes arn't very good on these old ones. VW keep having the improve them, the new Golf diesels have 110 break horse power, these ones only have 75."

Classic :)

This is from a 16yo Blonde friend:
[Sees car advertised]
Her - "2litre engine, that means that the fuel tank holds 2 litres"
Me - "hehe"
Her - "It does....... doesn't it?"

And to think that her Dad drives an E60 M5

"A Corsa doesn't need ABS because it's so light."

Said to me and the missus by... a Vauxhall salesman

That's not stupidity, it's lying to get a sale. So it doesn't count. Mind you, that assumes that at least low-end Corsas don't have ABS...

only because Lopez has as much mechanical sympathy and self preservation as a suicide bomber

Guy with a chaved up Nova once came to our local club meet. We asked what he'd done to the engine and he replied "I've fitted an introduction kit which gives an extra 35 horses". We burst out laughing then he went. Never saw him again.
