FYI - Vista RTM now on MSDN

I've downloaded the Vista x86 ISO and the SHA-1 checks out OK but when I verify the burn in Nero, I get read errors on a bunch of sectors (1307312 to 1307916). Two burns, one at 8x, one at 4x.

Is this normal like a copy-protection kind of thing?

source is this uni's MSDN aa site
http://elms.e-academy.com/uiuc/inde...CFID=4139969&CFTOKEN=94805833&ID_Product=2435

to begin with it said last friday but thieve since changed it to this so maybe they've been told something

but saying that someone else has posted saying the uni has it but there sorting out the licensing at the moment.

also theres a guy working for microsoft here http://blogs.gotdotnet.com/robburke/about.aspx
Article link who says it die very soon on AA just the license keys to sort out.

So based on this i'd go with the MS guy not the uni as in the first link :D

I had problems getting it to burn properly.. in the end booted to my XP install, mounted the Vista iso under Daemon Tools and installed to a blank partition from there.. no idea why it wouldn't burn properly but I tried two separate downloads on two different machines at home, one was my XP box and the other was a Linxu box :/

Perhaps my fears were unfounded - I am writing this post from Windows Vista. So everything installed properly from the disc. Weird.

New icons, sounds, wallpapers and a few changes to panel windows, seems to be about it, supports all keyboard and mouse functions as standard now, wheras in xp or previous vista's ive needed to install drivers.

Could you post a few screenies of the things that have changed from RC2? :)

When does RC2 Run out, I though it was 6 months or until june whichever was first?

I think it will stop working on 31st May 2007. Of course Microsoft are unlikely to release any security patches for pre-release software, and lots of things will end up becoming incompatible with it even if they're compatible with Vista, so I wouldn't say it's a good idea to keep using RC2 until June just because you can.

Apparently Vista will be on AA on the 1st December. It's also been said it will be the Business edition on there. I don't know if other versions will be added later on.

what does that actualy get you?

Every Operating system (server or workstation) for a whole year...

I think that one means that you get a cd through the post, but if you go through Ms then you can download them online

So after a year the OS is then unlicenced?

Nope... but you will not recieve any new Operating Systems after a year... so say you have 2007 server and your subscription runs out in 2007 you will not be able to get 2008 server

Licence is ok no matter what...

how does this relate to retail PCs, ie I assume you can't go installing MSDN licenced software on PCs you intend to sell.
