Gainward bring you a 512MB 7800 GT for AGP!!!!

only other thing you could try is a different PSU if you have one, as it may be coil interference from PSU. What kind of PSU does this card need ?

Haven't got a chipset fan (K7T Turbo mobo) and... well, here's my complete setup...

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ with Zalman Flower Heatsink
(with 120mm Nexus Real Silent Fan)
2 x 512M (1 Gig) PC3200 / 400MHz RAM
Gainward 7800 GT 512MB | 20 pipes | 460/1350
Driver: XTreme-G 84.21.v2
Antec P180 dual chamber case (advanced super-mid tower)
19" Flat AOC Monitor
SB Audigy 2
2 x HD - total 280GB | 7200 rpm (sys 120Gb | Back 160Gb
Sony DRU-810A dual layer 16x DVD-RW
Winfast TV2000 Expert TV Card
Zalman 400W (silent) PSU
Thermaltake Hardcano 13 (Fan/Heat Monitor/Controller)
1 x 120mm Antec silent case fan
2 x 120mm Akasa Ultra Quiet Case Fans

as you can see... I'm quite into things being "silent" !!!!

The new noise is def there, since the graphics card install. Just not a s silent as .... well,... 'silent'!

Guys,

I recently got this card and its works well at standard, but I tried oc'ing it the other day to 460 and 1350 (cool bits gave 490 and 1370 as optimal) but I got 1-2 fps less in the CS stress test. Whats going on here?

Is it a power issue? I have a Globalwin Sapphire Super Silent 520W psu, but only have one free cable - this is attached to the gfx card. As I said, it runs fine other than this. Any ideas

I don't have a clue what you said there, but in english please?
Lol ( I think ) :D
If your rig is going to be on 24 / 7 will you be using a method of stimulation that will keep you going 24 / 7 such as the popular beverage consumed by young people who frequent dancing establishments that is known as red bull ;) ?

Ok what I was trying to say is, will it be ok if my rig is on 24/7. Or very frequently used for games such as css and bf2.
;) Lol, I know.
I`m suprised your card runs @ those frequencies  , I would imagine you would start to see the image suffer if the card did not like it and it may shorten the life of your card but not really sure, let us know when it melts :p

Everything at default now, just waiting for my new DFI, should get it soon. After that let the overclocking commence :D. I wonder how those new 7800GS+'s will preform.

Since theres talk in this thread about mobos and pci express, what boards out tehre are good for suipporting socket 478 and pci express? ive seen an asus board with 2 ram slots going really cheap (P4GPL-X) an albatron board ive seen mentioned thats imposible to find. Any others that have 4 ram slots and 16x pci express?

None that I saw when I was considering this option, although the lower price of x1800 cards does make this option more interesting, but again you may have to factor in the cost of a new PSU :(

I'm currently testing an asus p4gd1, nice board...few perks though...cpu overvolts, memory slightly undervolts...not an overclockers friend, but gives a new lease of life to my 3.4ghz gallatin!

You dont need to buy a new PSU, just get pci-e card adapters and a 24 to 24 pin power thing, only a fiver.
Some old school PSU don`t have enough juice for the newer pci-e cards but if it does you will need the adapter you mentioned ;)

I was strongly thinking of getting this mobo before I ended up getting an AGP Gainward 7800GT 512MB

What GPU are you using with it ?

Thanks for the info!!

just a vote of thanks to those that posted - i was able to put my order in for the card (thanks Lee) and hope it will be posted soon..the discussion on PSU's also helped - just in case my Antec 400 wasn't going to be enough, i installed an Antec Neo 550 last night in anticipation..(i can always use it when i go double SLI on an A8N32...)...i have been building computers as a hobby since the Pentium 60's were the hot chip...and i owe most of it to discussion groups like this one.

Welcome to the forum and to the club :)
Unless you are running lots of bits and bobs your Antec 400w would have been ok, using an Antec truepower 380W with mine, no probs ;) , nice new PSU btw

this and that

thanks, i reviewed the SLI approved and SLI compatible - and even though the Antec Neo 550 was compatible not approved - i thought it would be the most reliable...other than spending $450 to $500 for a 850W or 1KW.

in any event, i may jazz it up with a Thermaltake PurePower Power Express 250W (W0099) anyway -

i tried to slip in another 1 gig of Corsair 3500LLPRO but i don't think the power to the motherboard can handle it - i can boot to windows but then crash...

I tend to superbuild my computer until i am ready to build another and then try to canabilize the parts i can use for the new one - so the power supply will go for the AMD64/SLI as well as the two pair of TWINX2048-3500LLPRO (need to get a nice case with clear side panel - unfortunately i cannot see the flashing LED's on the memoy with my current case), audio ok, hard drives ok....so really all i need is another case, motherboard, chip, and 2 video cards...maybe i'll wait till Mr. Gates can get his new Operating System out of beta mode...would prefer a 64 bit operating system...

oh well...

ps. just added my location to my sign-in....from one of your former colonies
:-)
