Gainward bring you a 512MB 7800 GT for AGP!!!!

I'm also interested in knowing that, this card and the GS+ seems to be having a lot of problems with a lot of people.

Looks like this may be one of the reasons nvidia didn't natively create AGP variants of PCIE cards but left the option to manufacturers because of some instabilities on certain systems

It might be because some people simply do not have a good enough PSU to supply the required power to the card, as it needs a lot to keep it running, especially with that large, silent cooler they have included with it.

I have bought a GS+ myself, a day before the "this week only" discount. Yet to fit it yet though, just managed to get clarity about the molex connector adaptors. I hope to get large scores and imprevements with this.

Please post the full system specs of the system it didn't work in. Otherwise you're giving us no helpful info at all.

Especially the motherboard brand? Might save someone else a headache later.

abit IS7
p4 p4 3.4ghz prescott
enermax psu i think its and 430W one
3x 160gb maxtor drives
and crucial ddr 3200 ram

the thing wouldnt boot with the card on only fans would spin yet when i stuck a ati 9000 aiw card it bootys fine.

odd considering it booted fine even with the shuttle 240W psu, i upgraded to a 300W psu just to be on the safe side

now ive got another prob, with the card in the shuttle the arctic cooler on the gianward card is rumbling, and its getting on my nerves have i voided the warrenty by remove the back plate that surrounded the dual dvi ports? the card it self is running well, fear is running smooth as is bf2

I had an Abit mobo myself and in the beginning I couldnt get my Gainward card to work, and only an older ATI card would work, until I went into the BIOS. Have a look under "AGP Apateur size" and if its at 128mb or less, change it to 256mb. Then when you reboot it should pick up your Gainward card straight away.

ive tried that, stuck in radeon card go into bios up the size. but still same prob. not too bothered tho long as i can play bf2 fine im happy.

just gotta sorta out the rumbling cooler thats on it now

...is a Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GS+ too much for my rig ?

I'd like Age of Empires III with all the toys on.

I'd guess at a certain point the Barton CPU is the weak point here, but which card would give the the best performance with this CPU without chucking money at it ?

NB. I'm not really interested in upgrading the CPU/mobo/RAM at the mo' as I'll build an uber-PC later when the Vista/HDCP/Conroe/DDR2 mess sorts itself out.

that [articular barton cpu has an advatnage none of the others do, 400fsb AND 512k cache makes it in the uppermost area for cpus and is only tailing by small numbers in cpu scores from benchmarks for the A64 cpus so there isnt anything to worry about.

You will see a massive difference on any 7800 class AGP card though.

I saw 2x boost each time I went from 6600GT to 6800NU to 6800GT on my 3200+

Thanks MRK,
I popped in this afternoon to get one, had to wait until now to test it.
...and there was no Goth in the queue - what is OC coming to ? :-)

I first replaced the power supply using an Enermax 475W from another rig, as it had the 6 pin molex the card required.
Install had no problems, the card is the quietest thing in the box.
Running Age of Empires in 1600x1200, all the toys on max.
fraps gives 50-60fps, although there is some jerking when scrolling over map

but oddly setting shader to "very high" causes a white out, and it did the same when I first ran AoE3 (had to download and reinstall the trial demo)

I'll try and run some other tests tommorow

I think this is similar to

although I'm unsure which card he's got ?

It doesn't say so on the OC site, but I got a voucher for a free game,
...unfortunately they all suck plus they want to stiff me £5 P&P ;-)

They do kinda suck compared to more modern games but I did not have to pay p&p for mine a few weeks ago, are you looking at the web site link on the voucher ?

Latest 3DMark06

3DMark06

4083 !! 3d marks
sm2.0 2030
hdr/sm3.0 2016
cpu score 781

Using the latest NVTUNE - discovered i could raise AGP from 66 to 71 without a problem...used 510/1730 and 87.25 Z drivers with 3dMark06 profile....

i think i can break 4100......

not bad for a 3200+ not overclocked....

:D :D

That is cool.Hey did you check the pixel pipelines configuration, because I tried in Rivatuner and it not show anything, and I wonder if they work correctly because the 7800GS+ has how device id. 7800GS (00F5).
MAybe you could check it out there, in nvidia they said you can do it with NVtune.
Oh you should try the 92.28 beta drivers, I use Video card stability test,is pretty simple show frame rate and I got from 1497 to 2096 FPS more. :D

to answer edgaruy1980 about whether the
Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GS+ has 24 pipes or not,
this is my dump from Rivatuner :

NVIDIA specific display adapter information
----------------------------------------------
Graphics core : NV49/G71 revision A2 (24pp,8vp)
Hardwired ID : 0290 (ROM strapped to 0293)
Memory bus : 256-bit
Memory type : DDR3 (RAM configuration 07)
Memory amount : 524288KB
Core clock domain 0 : 418.500MHz
Core clock domain 1 : 398.250MHz
Core clock domain 2 : 398.250MHz
Memory clock : 627.750MHz (1255.500MHz effective)
Reference clock : 27.000MHz
HSI bridge : BR02 PCIE-to-AGP
----------------------------------------------

this appears to be the same core as for a 7900gt
with (24pp,8vp)

Just trying to shortcut eading all these pages but....

Has anyone benched one of these agp cards to see what kind of numbers come up? I'm debating whether to throw cash at one of these or spend similar money on a PCIe set up...

edit
doh! ignore me.. I only need to look up about 3 posts.

aztechnology,
see my earlier post for
3dmark 03 / 3dmark05 / 3dmark06 results for a GeForce 7800 GS+ 512Mb.

Please post your current rig spec, this is kind of a niche buy and I would think only suits a few people.
