Gainward bring you a 512MB 7800 GT for AGP!!!!

I will be the proud owner of one of these babies very soon, upgrading from the previous Gainward (Golden Sample) 6800GT @ Ultra to the 7800GT (This week only @ £246)

Just wondered how good this card can perform, both at stock and when you decide to overclock it. I assume using the "detect settings" using nvhardpage 2.0 will be the best one to try?

Fixed it. CPU was holding me back since it was on stock. Plus didn't like those Forceware Ultra drivers, so reverted back to the nVidia's.

These new fangled drivers don`t always work out better, any noticable difference in image quality between these drivers ?

Well the Ultra drivers are a tad better give a few FPS and nicer Image Quality. But they're a b****rd to install. Since uninstalling the nVidia drivers, then restart, causes the computer not to recognise the Gainward card.

Then if you do install the forceware Ultra, it then tells you to uninstall the nVidia drivers first. Right pain!

The best thing to do is firstly install "Driver Cleaner Pro" just google it to find a link to d/l it. Boot into safe mode and then use this, which will clean your drive of all nvidia/ati driver traces as necessary, then reboot back into normal windows and install the Forceware Ultra drivers, there shouldnt be a problem after that, all being well ;)

Wid-

The drivers I used were ForceWareUltra 84.56 WHQL *BETA*, now I'm using the 84.21's from the nVidia site.

I think the best drivers come from Tweaksrus.com
Check out their Promo Vid - uploaded to my web:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/wildweb2004/files/TRU_Promo_v2.zip

They have the latest drivers and get them even better by altering them and re-packaging them... I always get better performance out of their drivers...

Have fun.

Thanks for those, remember seeing those ages ago. Are they any good and which one's shall I go for? I want to have a Good Benchmark and gaming performance, I play @ 1280x1024 or w/e, 4xAA and 8xAF get good FPS too.

Which drivers?

Most of the drivers are improved on and 'optimized'. However, try yourself, and see what suits your game(s). I use the 84.21 v2 XG mostly, but have dabbled it all of them. It can be time consuming uninstalling etc, but it's worth it in the end. The new 84.56 v3 have had some good reviews... check out the forums... loads of info there!

Cheers. ;)

Hehe. I decided to opt for the 84.25's v2, got me 8.4k spot on in 3dmark05 and image quality seem's a tad nicer, very nice drivers. Thanks for the link.

That's an amazing score. I've never had anywhere near... Can't see why though - it must be a CPU related issue... or something.... :(

Yeah, CPU POWA! hehe, CPU does hold back this cards full potential. A Overclock me help, waiting for my DFI board so I can try hit 3GHz. 9k is my mark for this card on '05.

I'm sad to say I sent my 7800gs 512 back today, it just wouldn't stop the sentinel warnings:(
On the plus side, my new system arrived yesterday & is in full flow.
7900gt 512, Athlon64 3200+ & BFG Nforce 4 Ultra board. Obviously I've finally gone PCIx & it's my first AMD too so I'm going to be baffled with dividers & stuff for a while;)

Time for some fun:)

Anybody as unimpressed as me with the Gainward Games Selection?

The voucher you get with this card, goes to:

www.gainwardgamingzone.com

and, well, if they're trying to promote this card as having the latest GPU power, Gainward have definitely not done well with their choice of games. I haven't even bothered using my voucher....
Anyone feel the same? (sorry to sound a bit disgruntled...)

So, the Ath 64's are really much better than the reg Barton Core??? I didn't realise they were 'that' much faster....

Hi fella's, I got this card today and have been trying to do some benchmarking. However i appear to have a serious problem with the 3dmark05 and 06 programs.

The first graphics test runs ok but the second (firefly) test fails while loading and i recieve the following message.

Idirect3DDevice9::DrawIndexedPrimitive failed: Out of video memory (D3DERR_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY)

I've googled it and have fund little to encourage me so far.

First off I tried the 84.25 V2 drivers from tweaks'r'us. I then tried the vanilla drivers straight off the nvidia website and the problem persisted. I installed the April release of directx 9 a couple of weeks ago.

The card runs the Half Life Lost Coast demo maxed out at 1280 1024 with no hiccups so i'm at a loss as to what is going on here. I'm hoping some of you kind souls can help me out - beware though I'm a noob...
