US: Game of Thrones Season 3 (contains spoilers)

He's already given HBO a synopsis of how the story ends so they can make it without him (if required).

They might even be better off doing this, I reckon. Much as I enjoyed the books there are an awful lot of dead-end characters and wandering about.

I don't like the idea of getting the end revealed by the TV series before the books are finished though!

Yeah I've given up on the story following closely with the books. The issue I have with that is that although the major plot points (Jaqen H'ghar, Ned Stark, Whispering Wood, Blackwater Bay, etc. - note: I've avoided future plot points) will still be evident, it's actually the background noise in-between that ties it all together.

It's roughly equivalent to the missing relationship that builds between Legolas and Gimli in the LotR books. You really see how they become buddies. In the film they hate each other then all of a sudden love each other with nothing in between.

Indeed. Some great missed opportunities in the series....Not including Ned's dream about the Tower of Joy was a terrible mistake imo. Probably the most important section of the entire saga!

The trouble is that most of the best bits, and most important bits in it are told through flashbacks and dreams, so it isn't easy to include them.

Edit- If they did do a prequel series based on Robert's Rebellion, they could include the Tower of Joy stuff in there of course, as well as lots of other important history.

I know the tv series isn't following the books word-for-word, but I'm assuming the major events are still the same? Out of interest, how many books through are we on the tv series?

This third series is the third book. More than likely that it will become a little more complicated from now on though, as they almost certainly will merge all of the books together from next season on. Book 4 and 5 tell the same timeframe for example, so can't be split in to separate seasons....unless you can imagine a whole season without featuring 4-5 of the biggest characters.

It is almost certain that season 3 and 4 will be covering book 3.

Damn this episode was boring, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH then it was over. Eastenders in a fantasy setting and what's with that end singing, urgh

I recommend that you never watch The Wire then, if you can't stand characters talking.

Oh I can, but there's not enough episodes in a season, with too many characters all going blah blah blah from different storyline perspectives. Thus, you end up getting lost, then the episode is over!

10-13 episodes is just not enough!

Sorry I had to...

I'd love to see the Mitchell brothers in GoT.

I'm waiting for Left and Right, surprised they haven't appeared yet given Diana Rigg off around the place with no regard for any personal safety, guess no one messes with The Queen of Thorns.

I figure due to actor change they've kept The Mountain out of the series and only mentioned rather than seen thus far. It should prove interesting to see if he returns, and as which actor, as the chap who replaced the original spud looks like I could have him after I'd had half a shandy. Need a proper Mountain back.

I thought The Hound looks fairly beasty in the fight he had, proper conflict there, a good spar and duel.

He was in one of the tywin scenes although he wasn't mentioned by name
