I'm registered on TDPRI already!
I'm hoping to make a couple of pinecasters and a strat soonish.
Got myself two slabs of Bristlecone Pine, and a huge chunk of Olive Ash.
I have a couple of guitars on eBay that will fund buying maple neck blanks and hardware, and a guy who works at my college with experience making guitars to help me make the necks from scratch!

I have a question for the guitarists here. I need to get 2 sets of strings for my 2 electric guitars tomorrow.

Do people on here have one guitar with two different sets of strings on.
So have 1 guitar with strings designed for lead and the other with strings designed for rhythm?

Or do most people just put Regular or Hybrid strings on both?

I'm just undecided on what would be best as i play a bit of both really.

Cheers

I have one guitar and play regular 10's in standard tuning. I play a whole variety of style and mix between lead/rhythm. What tuning are you going to be playing and what guitar do you have? I used to have an ibanez with a floating bridge and hybrid strings used to destroy the tuning. I would say only go Hybrid if you have a locking trem or a through body.

Just get some 10's.
Or 9's if you want something a bit more bendy.
I play blues and classic rock using 10's tuned to flats becuase I want to to they crazy blues bends.

OK then, thanks for the help guys. To the shops tomorrow for new strings then.

Just realised that my new electro acoustic that i got last weekend is not playing the 4th and 3rd strings properly. It is fine when played acousticly, but as soon as i plug it into the amp, the 2 strings are noticeable quieter.
When using the in-built tuner, it doesn't recognise the 4th string and has now started to intermittently do the same with the 3rd.
A mate of mine thinks it is the pick-ups so i will have to take that back next weekend as the shop i bought it from aren't open on Sundays.

That's 3/4 of my guitars i had to return less than 2weeks after purchasing them :(

I play regulars on my Strat & Tele and lights on my electroacoustic, although I suppose light acoustic strings are heavier than regular electric strings :p

My electroacoustic does the same thing (no sound from a couple of strings) but it's a dodgy jack connector - if I unplug the jack a little then it works fine. Have a bit of a play around with the connector first to see if it is the pickups themselves that need to be changed!

When you have an electric kit that's that nice, an acoustic kit becomes a burden. ;)

no it doesnt, not when your full time giggin :) ;) electric kits are good, but they give you more abilitie than you actually have due to skin response...you can buzz roll on them something stupid!

Have you played a top-end electric kit? The Roland TD-12's and TD-20's are fantastic kits and the response from the mesh heads is very similar to a normal skin, they're not difficult to buzz roll on at all!

Very nice mate, what brand of wall hangers there? i could do with some for my collection.

Hercules. Really good cos they sort of lock round the neck with the weight of the guitar.

I'd recommend using something a bit bigger than the tiny screws they come with though - I wouldn't even want to use those to hang my coat up. :/

:)
