GeForce GTX 590 Key Features Revealed

This card is the last possible contender as a possible upgrade to my 5850's.

ATI 6*** and nvidia 5** series didn't offer enough boost to justify the price. The 6990 was the same.

If this isn't good enough, I'm most likely going to have to wait for the ATI 7***'s or fermi's successor.

My sentiments exactly with 5870CF rig.

one thing i do have to agree with raven on,
Sorry but the 590 is not going to fail because it has 1.5Gb vram

Now it may fail on size, noise, heat, price or speed but to the people that will be buying these cards the amount of vram would be a small factor in my opinion.

also to say niche market, don't go there. Why, the bottom line is these are the exclusive end of the market, only a very select few will buy them, and then a even more select few of them will be running with 3 or more monitors, of course only a few of them will play those games in question where the Vram limit might come into play. I think you see the point.
These are not high volume parts, now I'm not suggesting that there will only be 1000 made like some rumours, but these certainly wont be a very high volume like the GTX580/AMD6970.

The point is if the gtx580 sli is suffering from memory right now then surely future games that should be more demanding are a worry. I am pretty sure for people buying this card vram is not a small factor lol. Infact v-ram is a big factor in buying a gpu not a small factor. At my resolution of 1920x1200 it would not be a problem at all but if i was to put another 2 monitors in 1.5gb would be a big concern to me especially when amd have 2gb cards out or 4gb 6990. Look at the gtx295 it was very fast and still is but it has pretty low memory which will kill it in some games at my resolution when i want high settings.

I'm sure it will sell, everyone who is planning to buy it are already planning to get rid of it when the next generation comes out because they are just keeping ontop of benchmark results but anyone looking to buy something expensive that will last them a few years will be turned off completely.

If OP's source and Gibbo's comments are to become true, being limited in some current games is not worth a near £700 investment.

When is the next gen due out? Im buying in Sept so want to know if its worth waiting. Cheers

A number of forthcoming titles are being built up for the PC, BF3 being one of them, PC gaming has never been so profitable, just got to looks at the revenue steam takes from sales. PC gaming is on the ascendancy.

You realise that facebook games and f2p games both count for pc gaming? Both earn shed loads from in-game purchases.
Steam sales? Where everything is 75-90% off? I'm sure if on xbl or psn store they did those prices things would move like hotcakes there too.

Talking about niche markets and not needing to bother for them in a thread about a top of the line dual gpu card? that will cost as much as a gaming pc or console + tv setup?

Surround setups are just as niche as dual gpu graphics cards. Yet both nv and amd have got dual gpu cards on the go and nvidia (from experience) have very strong surround drivers. Something only gained by investing effort into.

To be honest i can't decide whether or not this card will be a hit or a fail. But there are quite a few things that have been said that contradict each other.

For starters the cores inside them are very likely downclocked 570 cores. In terms of sheer power consumption it becomes pretty obvious. I know the slide says 512 shader cores but tbh it may well not be legit. If they are in fact 580 cores, they would have to be cherry picked for low voltage, and hence you can watch the price shoot way way up as a consequence.

Its hard to say whether or not the memory will be a limiting factor, but in my opinion 1.5gb per core on a card like this isn't quite enough. People buying this card will have mutiple screen setups or play at extremely high resolutions. If someone buys this card to play at 1920x1200 or less then - to be frank - they are an idiot, as a 580/6970 would do the job just fine. If some current titles are being limited by the vram at high res then its a cause for concern for titles coming out late this year/next year.

The cooling solution looks good, and i personally think it will be quieter than a 6990. However, the performance is likely to be less than the ATI equivalent, and its a well known relationship that as performance increases so does heat output and therefore noise.

Considering nvidia's current lineup i dont expect to see this card below 550. If it turns out to be cherry picked 580 cores then id say a *minimum* of 650. Pricing below these points is quite unlikely considering the 580 is still circa 400. The only way it qould be cheaper is if nvidia have a series of price drops on the horizon, which is again unlikely.
