Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

Not if you had 100's of millions/billions of pounds.

If you had ridiculous wealth, where a 1 million pound Veyron would be pocket money, why wouldn't you buy one ( if cars were your thing that is)?

Well in that case I would buy a pagani and a veyron but if I had to choose one I would get the pagani because I like it more.

That is the point though. You don't have to choose...because you are filthy rich.

You just buy whatever is fastest/best , whatever you want.

:p

Perhaps the car analogy should have been "If you want the road legal car that goes fastest in a straight line and has the fastest acceleration". If money is no object, and you wanted that, you would buy the Bugatti.

Well i feel gutted. I skipped the GTX680 as i didnt think the upgrade from my GTX580 was justified so thought id wait for the next cards. I actually got so bored waiting that i actually sold it for £150 & grabbed a bargain new GTX560 ti 448 at £131 (mis price on another site but mistake honoured). Just wanted to play with something new.

Anyhoo....I, like probably anyone else who skipped the GTX680, was waiting for the GTX780 assuming it would follow the traditional further 20-30% improvement at the £400-450 price. So after all this time nvidia seemed to be re-releaseing the gtx680 under new name GTX770 at same price (arguably more or less pointless & despite its pros feels like nvidia trying to trick peeps) & a £550+ GTX780, that should have been £425ish.

Now in hindsight if i knew this i would have just grabbed a GTX680 at £400 release or the 7970 after it dropped sub £400. Kinda feels like waited an extra year & a half to be greeted with the either the same card with different name or splash out £550-£900 if i want anything new.

Got the money but finding it difficult to justify when 7950+ 4 games is £250. 7970 is £300. The gtx680 really should only be £325 MAX (I would pay out slightly more to go nvidia because i to feel more confident in their drivers) with this gtx780 falling into the £425 area & the TITAN...well really £600 tops me thinks.

Prices seem skewed & nvidia must be laughing. Think they probably found themselves a little stuck on pricing having just charge £800+ for the TITAN just 2 months ago they probably went for a figure that balanced what they thought would generate sales while trying to minimise the possible angry TITAN owners who may feel a bit robbed?

Really is amusing considering how much money i waste on stuff that when it comes to something tangible like this that will probably last me a year i hum & harr over it. But like i said, just think been a bit shafted.

Nvidia has brought us new cards just over a year after the last ones.

Cough *Rebrands* Cough..

Nvidia has brought us new cards expensive rebrands just over a year after the last ones.

You obviously thought that this comment warranted two replies, which is fine but could you please explain to us all just how the 780 is an expensive rebrand of any of the other cards.

If AMD had released the 7970 at $450 dollars instead of $550 dollars, I wonder if Nvidia would have followed suit with their launch of the 680? It is easy to blame one or the other but neither of them care about us.

Well said Greg. Wether you swing green or red,at this point,it is obvious neither give a **** about us.

What?

The last time I paid over 500 pounds for a card was the evga 8800 ultra superclocked. It's been in my garage under a pile of rubbish for the past few years. Just checked and its still there. It's worth half nothing now and has the worst coil whine I've ever heard. I'm so tempted to buy a 780 but just keep saying no spixel no save your money!!!! you only play minecraft and minesweeper!!! But still.. I want one :(

I think they will come down in price... Its most likely because AMD having no single gpu card to compete at the very top and nothing coming out until the end of the year! If AMD had just released, or were just about to release their new range of cards this would have most likely followed the £400-£450 trend!

Therefore it won't come down in price, it has NO competition. I think the 20nm rumour has been debunked also, who knows what AMD are hiding but I hope it's good, and cheap.

So with the unlocked voltage and GPU boost technology the 780 is not looking bad for those of us using watercooling. Assuming better cooling and higher binned cards the +10% guru 3D achieved could easily turn into 15% which would give considerable gains over the 680/7970Ghz. I'm not saying this justifies the price tag however it's not exactly fail.

I brought a EVGA 680 last year on release day for £416, a year+ has passed and it is now £399 on OCuk.

Hopefully prices will drop back to sensible levels but I can't see much evidence so far based on *current* 680 prices.

Hopefully that will change in the coming days.

This does make me grin and appreciate the fact i have a GTX690.
I think it's my favourite graphics card i've own now, topping my GeForce 256 DDR and Voodoo 4.

My GTX 690 rig is the first one I reach for even now and gets used 24/7

If you can go qsli and stick to 1600p the power is awesome. It is something AMD can not match, two HD 7990s just don't work.

H'mm... am I crazy for thinking of buying one of these for a GTX 780? It should fit right? >> http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/569/accelero-hybrid.html

They are about £100 with cashback, making my total outlay £616

Yes you are, firstly if you already have a water cooled CPU then it would be about the same price to add it to the loop, if you don't they investing in WC is still a good option.

But secondly, this product is actually based on one created by the enthusiast community called the "dwood bracket" which is basically a bracket that lets you mount a Corsair/Antec* AIW CPU cooler and a 92mm fan of your choice to a graphics card.

*or any other re-branded Asetek cooler really.

HD7970 was released in Jan 2012 and it took Nvidia over one year to truly beat it in performance. That is what I (and others) mean by AMD have been more than competitive for most of the past year.

It also took AMD until January 2013 to fix a driver bug that could cause total system lockups while playing WoW on HD79x0, forcing many of us to give up waiting and change our cards :( (not saying that Nvidia have never had driver issues lol, but I do not consider an entire year to stop your drivers causing issues in one of the worlds most popular games to be acceptable).
