Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

That was pretty bad. I would get the pagani because unlike the bugatti it goes around corners and looks better. Do you not watch top gear where the Huayra thrashed the supersports time by 3 seconds. Unless you like going in straight lines all the time the huarya is a more balanced car and cheaper as you point out.

I meant in a straight line. The Supersport would thrash the Huayra and is the fastest production car (and holds this record). Yes the latter handles great but there is some debate about the tyres it used to set its time on top gear. It still hasn't done a Nurburgring time as far as I know and I would find that more informative than the short top gear track.

when the 7970 launched it was £500 now the gtx 780 and im sure the next amd card will be also, the best bet is to wait it out untill price drops, when i bought my 7970 six months later i could have got a pair of 7950's for the same money.
next time i shall be playing the waiting game, im not going to get my pants pulled down again

That isn't the point. Yes Titan has only been out for a few months but it has been talked about for many prior to this. What have AMD been doing? A rebadge of sea islands and some vague rumours of their volcanic island GPUs which will probably not be with us until 2014. Too late! By then, the 800-series Nvidia cards will be round the corner.

Are you serious? Nvidia are re-branding the GTX680 as a GTX770 and the GTX670 as a GTX760Ti. Talk about Titan for a few months prior to release does not mean AMD were not competing for the previous year.

I've seen some utterly illogical arguments in my time but you are well up there. Now months of Titan rumours count as Nvidia being more competitive than AMD having the actual fastest GPU available for the previous 9 months.

Yup sometimes waiting game is worth it. I recently got my 7950 for £240 and am very happy with it. I am gonna sell the AMD reloaded games and hopefully the 7950 would then come to around £215-£220 for me:)

But it is currently bottlenecked by my socket 775 system

Well according to many sources Titan was supposed to be the GTX 680 so Nvidia could have trumped AMD if they really wanted to. Fact is the GTX 680 was/is a close enough performer to the 7970 for them not to bother and so they could just rely on their fan base/the Nvidia name to sell it. Likewise with the 670 and 7950.

This then paved the way for them to milk more money out of their speed advantage with Titan and now the 780GTX e.t.c

So now the GTX 780 is out and delivering almost Titan performance but a a much lower price...
then what will the resale / 2nd hand market be like for GTX Titan ? I mean what will you be able to sell your Titan card for so people don't just go buy a new shiny GTX 780 ?

Not a lot :p:D I would rather have a new GTX 780 than a second hand Titan for the same money.

I would get the Pagani as well. Obviously better.

Yes they were competitive once AMD managed to get their butts into gear and write some proper drivers. How long did that take? I am not knocking the hardware, I think it is impressive. I think the company managing it are poor though.

As of a few months ago, no, AMD are not competitive at the top end in the single GPU market. Forget about price, they have nothing to match Nvidia in top of the range performance and will not do so for months.

I really hope they turn it around as I am a big fan of their stuff. I have always used their GPUs in my gaming laptops and love them. They just need a kick up the arse.

AMDs drivers were working for me the instant I installed them for my HD7970 bought on day 1. My GTX680 on the other hand gave great problems for months with the vsync stutter bug. I have yet to have a GPU that didn't get performance boosts, game and bug fixes over the course of its life cycle. Nvidia have also been releasing updated drivers and fixes in the same period. I love the hypocrisy of some people, AMD release improved drivers and it is somehow proof their drivers suck. Nvidia do the same and it just proves how great their drivers are.

Also where did I or anyone else say AMD were competing with Titan? I stated as did others, that prior to Titan AMD were not just competitive they had the fastest single GPU for most of the previous year. HD7970 was released in Jan 2012 and it took Nvidia over one year to truly beat it in performance. That is what I (and others) mean by AMD have been more than competitive for most of the past year.

The only benefit is the extra VRAM, so I guess if you game at high res, the Titan is still the better option.

For most people though, the 780 will be the best and cheapest choice.

well thats obvious is it not ? surely that PCB/config wouldn't really lend itself to 4 or 5gb would it ?

the 2gb vs 4gb 680s were as you can just use twice the size memory chips for each current chip to make the 4gb
