Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

Only 3GB, that's really really poor.

Wait for EVGAs Classified as 6GB will be possible if you're willing to pay an extra 20% more. Remember that even Metro Last Night didn't use more than 1GB VRAM at 1400p, BF3 uses just under 2GB. 3GB VRAM covers every current title which ensures you certainly think about upgrading again next year with Maxwell for impressive gains.

Why is it poor?

1 GPU doesn't, and not even really 2 GPUs, have the muscle to push the settings which cause you get close to utilising that amount of VRAM. Even at triple screen resolution with two GPUs you're going to be limited by raw performance 99% of the time as opposed to VRAM. Before I hear Skyrim I don't think people develop graphics cards based on running unofficial texture mods on an old game :D.

Unless game development suddenly goes down the route of loading up VRAM with loads of high definition textures I don't see that changing suddenly either. It might well slowly over time especially with the amount of DDR5 on the PS4 but this is unlikely to happen overnight.

You get 3GB with a £200 7950...

Only 3GB on a £500 card is a ripoff.

I don't know but i'm getting uncomfortably close to my 2GB limit at 1080P

Getting close doesn't mean you need more VRAM. If you had 3 or 4 GB, you may still utilise close to your max. Again, it doesn't mean you are limited unless you are actually recording instances during gaming when your VRAM usage reaches max.

After recently buying a brand new Ultrabook from the US and having it shipped to the UK and after all associated costs still saving hundreds of pounds, I'll be interested to see if this round of graphics cards fare any better.

The 780 using the same GPU as the Titan (probably just slower/leaky bins) leads me to suspect that availability will be extremely rare, especially for the UK and that will lead to price gouging for a long while at launch (fondly reminds me of the £550 price tags of the 5970's when I got mine day one which was accidentally listed for RRP of £440).

Currently on a GTX580 i'd like to stuff a 780 in my rig but honestly at only twice as fast at best a much better bet will be to pick up a 2nd hand 580 and SLI my current rig for what will probably be about 1/4 the price shortly after launch.

Sigh... :/
