Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

That's not "full retard" pricing, its a very competitively priced, cut down compute card. The problem is that people don't seem to understand this concept and only see the gulf between it and the closest gaming card (not aimed at you, talking in general here).

That is true but it IS marketted by Nvidia as a gaming card not a cheap compute card, therefore of course it will be compared to other gaming cards!

Doesn't mean anything because:

a) it's from a newspaper
b) it's looking at individual companies pricings rather than as a whole which doesn't really relate to 'rip off Britain'

The market will reject companies who are selling products at a higher price than it is willing to pay. 'Rip off Britain' is just a sensationalist headline to grab attention which doesn't really explain anything not is it an accurate reflection of how things are comparatively.

Will need to see some benchmarks but I am not overly compelled to switch to a 780 from a pair of good clocking 670s.

I was hoping for the 7-series cards to have unlocked voltage so that one can take a bit more advantage of watercooling.

I think Nvidia put a block on unlocked voltages a while back on all cards, so I wouldn't get my hopes up on any of the future cards being any different.

AMD could cater to the enthusiast market by allowing unlocked voltages on their next cards to try and steal some market share, however the HWBotters etc would still just voltmod their cards. But at least us folk who want to watercool and overclock to hell and back would be able to do it then. Please AMD? :p

GTX Titan: A thousand pound for a single core GPU ^^^^

+1

And now they are looking to charge £600 odd for the next high end gpu... We can all see where this is going

Well I wasn't really complaining about the price of the Titan when I made that comment. For the record I think the Titan is priced too high from a purely gaming perspective, it really is too much for too little gain. But when you factor in the computer power you can sorta understand why nvidia are charging so much for it. My guess is that they couldn't sell it much cheaper than that and still make any kind of profit.

No my comment about Nvidia starting the trend of charging a hefty markup on their top tier card was based on previous generations of cards. Like the performance difference between the 570 and 580 was very small but the price difference was massive.

There will always be a premium for the fastest card in it's league.

Though that said, the 7970 GHz generally comes out on top and it's around the same price/slightly cheaper than the GTX680.

AMD haven't given any indication of locking cards. The current cards that are locked are down to vendors changing to cheaper unsupported vrms.

AMD appear to be big fans of overclocking, iirc they did a few ln2 shows a few years back.

And the reason there is always a big premium for the fastest card is that people keep buying them at large enough quantities for them to justify doing it.

Meet the Galaxy’s GeForce GTX 780.

The newest addition to the Galaxy’s lineup is equipped with GK110 GPU, which holds 2304 CUDA cores. Not surprisingly, also the Galaxy’s model has *only* 3GB GDDR5 memory across 384-bit interface. With the clocks of 863/900/6008 MHz (for base, boost and memory respectively) it offers the same performance as every reference card out there.

GALAXY GeForce GTX 780 graphics card offers a pure gaming experience for the PC gamer. The perfect combination of incredible performance, craftsmanship, and innovative gaming features, GeForce GTX 780 brings every game to life with stunning realism.

Recommend power supply should provide at least 600W, along with 6 and 8-pin PEG power connectors. The card supports Windows 8 natively. I have no information about the pricing yet.

Galaxy Geforce GTX 780 3GB specifications:
•Base Clock: 863MHz

Only 3GB, that's really really poor.

Why is it poor?

1 GPU doesn't, and not even really 2 GPUs, have the muscle to push the settings which cause you get close to utilising that amount of VRAM. Even at triple screen resolution with two GPUs you're going to be limited by raw performance 99% of the time as opposed to VRAM. Before I hear Skyrim I don't think people develop graphics cards based on running unofficial texture mods on an old game :D.

Unless game development suddenly goes down the route of loading up VRAM with loads of high definition textures I don't see that changing suddenly either. It might well slowly over time especially with the amount of DDR5 on the PS4 but this is unlikely to happen overnight.
