This is the settings for 1080p and the memory the game claimed I would use

This is what really happened, Max memory used 1.728gbs. On a single card it was 1.49gbs but I didn't bother with pics

This is the settings for 1600p and the memory the game claimed I would use

This is what really happened, Max memory used 2.240gbs. On a single card it was 2.0gbs but again I didn't bother with pics

The other thing to remember with lots of free vram available the game will cache it which probably pushed the usage higher than really needed.

Thanks Kaapstad.

Out of interest, did you take those memory measurements from in game play or just from the Graphics Settings screen ? I'm curious because I suspect you would not see true vram usage till you actually had the game running.

The game was running and I was doing my best to rescue the broad while jumping over the balcony.:D

I don't wish to derail this thread further but to clarify, I played Max Payne 3 at 5760x1080 on 2x2GB 680's with no issues/errors. I remember getting that warning about VRAM usage but it never chugged it down to 1fps or close to that (the thing that happens when you exceed the available VRAM). I played a fair bit of the game but I soon got bored but not once did it turn into a slideshow.

I also remember AB reporting crazy fps and me thinking something was wrong with others systems but the newer AB was sorted and the real fps were shown.

Didn't we have this debate before Rusty? I distinctly remember deep discussions about Max Payne 3 breaking the 2GB easily and no one with a 2GB card agreed with that or had the game turn into a slideshow.

We did.

I don't think you really understand what you're going on about Sliver. No offence. :)

None taken. You're right. I didn't realise how far off the calculated vram from the game was from the actual vram used. I don't mind being proven wrong with evidence, but I will fight my corner till I see the evidence, which Kaapstad kindly took the time to provide. :)

Someone's knickers are in a twist!!!

:D

Tell me, why are you getting so upset because i'm calling NV a ripoff, when the general consensus is just that?

Sorry bud, I was just making a bit of harmless fun. No offence meant and I am pretty certain you can see it was funny if you look from a neutral point of view.

Second hand 7950 will be a good shout :)

This was nice to see tbh, someone being proven wrong and holding their hands up rather then spitting the dummy out. Top man sliver :)

Well ok then, looked A bit weird you running round collecting my posts. I am neutral, this is my first AMD card since I got back into gaming in 2007.

I bought this card because it was easily the best VFM at the time, by a mile.

2nd hand would be good, although with bundled games (currently 4) new would actually be more cost effective.

Even if Max Payne 3 is exceeding 2Gb of vRAM it'd be one of the few examples where 2Gb is not enough, it doesn't make a good argument for 3Gb being insufficient, I'm sure 3Gb will be fine for the lifespan of the card for single monitor users.

If you're 3x1080p or higher and you like to run crazy amounts of AA then maybe you could justify more than 3Gb over the lifetime of the card, but I doubt it. Multi-monitor users represent a very small fraction of the market.

It's also worth noting that things that soak up vRAM like high levels of AA are also really hard to maintain good frame rates with when you're at 6Mpix+ on multi-monitor displays, in some sense there are limitations to how helpful large amounts of vRAM are on cards before the GPU becomes a bottleneck. For example if you need to run 8xSSAA in order to justify your vRAM usage, but that causes frame rates of 10fps then it's not really justifiable.

Max Payne never goes above 1150MB on each card for me according to Precision display on my keyboard ingame no matter what I set the options too @ 2560x1440. The menu says I'm using around 2560mb/4096mb ?

The donkey or ass, Equus africanus asinus, is a domesticated member of the Equidae or horse family. The wild ancestor of the donkey is the African wild ass, E. africanus. The donkey has been used as a working animal for at least 5000 years. There are more than 40 million donkeys in the world, mostly in underdeveloped countries, where they are used principally as draught or pack animals. Surprisingly, none of them play Max Payne 3.

Thanks, I was always told that an ass was a crossbreed between a horse and a donkey.
