Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

But if you turn off that silly hair thing then it is probably fine.

Yes but then that isn't maximum setting which is what we're discussing. I don't think I really came close to saying that by turning settings down you can't get playable FPS with CF/SLI :D.

TressFX does affect performance a lot but SSAA 4x and Ultra shadows also dramatically reduces frame rate.

Is there anyone here who has said they will be getting a GTX 780 or 770

Yes, I will definitely be getting one or the other - it's all price dependent now. And if the 770 is priced at a very fair point then I will consider SLI 770s. But, either way, I shall be getting one or two 770s or one 780 - simply due to the fact that I don't actually have a desktop at the moment and so I'm starting fresh with a new build.

It all depends on the game, Metro with advanced Physx runs pretty much locked to 60Fps on 670 SLI @ 1440p. I would say Metro looks better than either Crysis or Tomb raider at max settings with the Advanced Physx adding a fair bit.

I am looking at the 770 scores and seeing a 680 only under the hood. See what prices are and it could well save you money grabbing a pair of 670's or even 680's. I understand the shiny thing, as I am terrible but unless you are big into benchmarking, I would avoid unless the 770 is cheaper than a 680 or the 780 is around the same price as the current 680.

But that isn't what you initially said. You said any game but I've provided examples of games which don't run that well maxed out at 2560*1440. I'm not advocating getting Titans or anything to run high levels of AA as the benefits are relatively small at that resolution but more just pointing that there are games which 670s (and 7970s/680s) can't max out at that resolution.

I was just pointing out that there are games that look better with more physics effects than the games you mentioned that run fine. It's very game specific. But yes upping the AA to high levels kills FPS. The games you mentioned to me run fine but I'm not using lots of AA as at 1440p it's not really worth it.

I think my idea of max is different to yours.... :) To me enabling features that kill FPS but make no viewable difference is not running max it's benchmarking.

Well, maximum is maximum - there isn't really a debate on that. The benefits of running said settings is debatable but again that's not what my original interruption was about.

AA does still help at 2560*1440 it's just that its effect is reduced dramatically and to most isn't needed. I use small amounts of AA but not 4x in most cases.

Movie style textures would be very demanding on any setup.

LOL :D

Man, those movie style textures in Bioshock Infinite weren't that impressive ;).

So with those prices we got £360 for the 770 and £480 for the 780 including vat.

Sounds about right and back to normal for Nvidia, guess they have managed to make GK110 in vaguely affordable quantities now*

*alledgedly, pinch of salt until we see the confirmed prices
