Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

Found a great deal on the 7950. Is it a big enough upgrade on the 480 for 1440p? Or should I wait for the new 7 series? I suspect nvidia price gouging though :(

Ugh, must resist gigabyte 7950 for £200. Wish I'd seen this deal before I bought crysis 3 and bioshock infinite though :(

Probably not the best place to ask but then again the topic of the 7950 has overtaken this thread clearly :P

:D

I'll shut up now but i will say this. It was all Ivan's fault. If he hadn't of posted that i wouldn't of asked for more info. That in turn led to my finding the msi 7950 oc card and that in turn led to me buying it. Ivan has a lot to answer for.

Nope I didn't say that I was posting MY experience.

What is a PEBKAC?

But from your post you're making out every nvidia card you've ever owned has been fine and all AMD cards have had problems, if that's the case then the problem exists with you unless you have some really really really really really bad luck with AMD cards.

Well if the problem existed with me then surely the Nvidia cards would have had problems as well that does not make sense. Maybe you are right and I have indeed had very bad luck with AMD. However I am entitled to post my experiences and a lot of people seem to have similar issues. Anyway this is off topic so I will stop now. The Athlon XP2500 I had was sweet though.

I have predicted that the GTX 780 will be within 5% of the Titan for a while now, the worrying part about this if true is that the price will be within a £100 of a Titan too.

The cheapest Titan at the moment is this at £799.99

So we are looking at a price of £699.99 or even a few quid over £700

Nvidia are not going to leave a gap in pricing much bigger than this, as they are making too much money with the high Titan sales.

Back on topic, the 780 looks like a very nice card indeed. A year from now the price might be good enough to buy one (:

I hope your wrong... but I fear your right about the pricing £600 + I think

I do hope you are wrong as that will be a massive fail by Nvidia. For that price you may as well have a Titan and 6Gb Vram.

Titan was a unique product with a single purpose. The 780 is a mainstream but top of the range card. £700+ will just see a lot of people just stick 2 fingers up to Nvidia. If that happens, I am getting 2 7970s and putting them under water till the next gen comes along.

Not that I can afford either. but at £699, id scrape up the dosh for a titan if i was buying.

Bought a 7970 instead though ;) not had AMD driver issues since the old 3870s either. Not sure what people keep doing to their drivers. Must be running beta drivers perhaps? :)

Still. Nvidia get mega points for making some of the sexiest GPUs. That titan (and 780 i guess) do look phenomenal aesthetically. and they perform good :) just price... steep.

If your going to defend Nvidia you need to be wearing asbestos, being right is not a defense! :P

OT: How cool would it be if AMD or their partners responded to the new Nvidia cards by releasing something like a HD7950-X2 :P that would really turn the screws on Nvidia.

They are not going to price it at £700. Nvidia are greedy but not stupid

Having your two high end cards at £700 and £800 doesn't make any sense. Especially when your third strongest is just a rebadge of last years flagship

This would alienate a large number of potential customers (willing to pay £400 - £550) and send them all to AMD

This will be £550 max

Doing so allows them to hit all segments of the market, which is how they'll make the most money

If the gap is too big NVidia may as well all but give up making the Titan in any numbers.

Turkeys don't vote for xmas.:D

I can't see them trying to sell the 780 for that much! You'd be silly to buy one when the Titan is faster and has twice the vRAM for less then £100 more!

IMO the 780 might :( be £600 (which is silly!) but over £700 is lunacy! All that does is pander to the Titan owners.

Look at it like this 670-680 where around £100 apart at launch and only 10% different in speed. Thats on a £400 card with the same vRAM.

IF the 670 with the same vRAM and only a little slower is 25% cheaper how come the 780 is only 12% cheaper than Titan? AND 780 has half the vRAM. Thats a big diss-advantage for some users.

Hmmm the 780 is going to be close to £700 I think.

Very good performance all the same. Will stick with my 7970 (soon to be crossfire) under water. Should last me another 18 months or so I would think.

I agree with this - if the 780 releases at the horrendous prices being thrown around here, then I will be shocked, angry and very annoyed!

I just can't see how they'll price it at such a high price relative to previous GTX-X80 releases.

I read earlier in the thread about Titan owners will be raging if these results are true but I for one hope they are true. Games are requiring more grunt of late (FarCry3/Crysis3/Tomb Raider etc) and for us forum enthusiasts at least, if the price is semi decent <£500, I can see some very happy 780 owners. I certainly won't be raging and as many of us here enjoy bigger than normal screens (resolutions) and multi screens with very high details, this kind of grunt is needed. If we are all honest with ourselves, we would like nothing more than to play every game with the highest possible settings and at a very decent frame rate but not everyone wants a dual card system to obtain those settings, so a 780 is a viable option if the price is right.

I hope Kaap is wrong and these cards do come in at sub £500 (I doubt that I am right). Having seen the price for ~$719 I think it was on an American site, there is hope :)
