Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

Yes, but the Titan was never going to be a value for money card, i'm sure everyone who bought one knew that, or they should have done. It was hugely expensive card aimed 5% or less of the market.

It's not surprising there's far more value to be found in more popular 7850 - 670 - 7950 segment of the market, sort of of mid to mid upper range.

I don't class cards such as Titan or huge dual GPU cards as the top end - that's the 680 and 7970 to me, although of course Titan et al are the 'top cards' - they're kind of in a freak section on their own, and their prices reflect that.

Agreed. High end to me was the 7970 and 680. The 690, Titan, 7990 were a very niche market that I would quantify as extreme high end. The 780 looks like it will enter that kind of market, but crucially will be the least expensive single card option out of that quartet.

But the success and sales of the Titan bought by pro users gamers alike has paved the way for Nvidia to rip customers off forever more.

Oh please, leave it out.

Both AMD and nVidia will price their products however the hell they want and irrespective of this they will still sell.

If YOU do not want to buy their product, don't. Wait, buy second hand, buy a lesser model - many options available to you.

GPUs are a luxury, not a necessity. Titan has nothing to do with what will happen to pricing. nVidia will pick a price point they think will generate the most income. The same old whining crap about pricing, rose tinted glasses reflecting on how "GPUs never used to cost this much" and "Company GPU model Y launched at such a cheap price!!!!". It's boring. So many people seem to think they are ENTITLED to new GPUs and they should be priced so that they can afford them/are as cheap as possible.

Guess what, you are not entitled to anything.

The 780 is a better price than I thought but I do agree and with AMD not releasing anything soon, it seems to be set this way for a few months. Hopefully AMD will bring the 20nm out at the end of the year and price it well but after seeing the 7970 pricing at launch and this pricing, I fear this pricing for 'top end' is set.

Spoffle hit a point awhile back that I agree with and that is over pricing will not wash with the consumer and they will not sell. Freaks like me bought Titans but we are few and far between and make up less than 5% of the market at a guess.

Nope

I am very happy with mine.:)

There may be some angry GTX 780 owners out there in 2 or 3 years time when they realise that 3gbs of vram won't do it anymore.:D
Realistically anyone buying a 780 isn't going to be using it in 2 or 3 years time. They may use longevity to justify the purchase, but in reality they are an enthusiast and will always want the latest and greatest.

So 600 quid is ok for a top end GPU now from what used to be the norm of £400? (7970 release rip off prices aside)

Keep the Titan of out this for this question that's a 580 mars type card.

Ha, doubtful though tbh, the kind of person who buys GTX 780 at launch will likely upgrade every year anyway. Same goes for the current Titan owners, they will upgrade soon as something better (Even more expensive) comes along. Titan Ultra based on Maxwell with 8GB lol..

Terrible pricing as we all expected tbh, glad I went with the 7950's. Got my codes today. Works out that each card cost me £150 LOL. :D

I dont believe that the price of a titan has changed graphics card pricing forever as Locky pointed out. I think its more to do with the pound getting absolutely battered over the last decade against the dollar and euro. Paying £500 for a gcard now is pretty much the same as paying £400 for a X1900XT a few years back due to currency devaluation.

If it's £500-550 ish, i'd place it as the new benchmark for the high-end, (it'll be the single GPU solution for AMD to shoot at) rather than in the freak section.

I do see what you're saying though in terms of performance. However, the Titan was about the £900 mark (very roughly speaking) at launch and has 6GB of RAM.

I was quite excited a few months back at the thought of all the great new tech and gadgets coming this year:

Google I/O - New Nexus Devices
GTX 700 Series
Intel Haswell Laptops
Next Gen XBOX

But I've been disappointed all the way.
No new Nexus devices have yet to be seen, arguably overpriced GPU's from nVidia, still no Haswell machines & lackluster XBOX showcase with many DRM issues.

I think I expected too much. Cash burning a hole in my pocket :p
