Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

TBF unless you are 4k gaming, currently is the first time there is no real need to upgrade, presuming you have a 1080ti. Have they even started shipping the 4k screens with greater than 60fps yet?

More and more people outside this forum are trying to use their 4K TV’s @ 60Hz. If a 1080Ti could genuinely cut it at that res/refresh rate, I’d have bought one long ago. Instead we need to turn down some settings to get stable frame rates. I won’t buy another card until it performs well enough at 4K/60, no matter how long the wait is.

Besides, who needs 120Hz @ 4K as you’d need two 1180Ti’s to get anywhere near 120Hz?!?

They'll still ben out before AMD's Navi, and they get to keep selling 10 cards (but to whom?)
Among others, there's continuously new kids coming of age and having their first disposable income to spend on PC gear. Not savvy buyers, them!

If you get lucky a 65 inch lg oled even.
Id buy New over size at this point want bigger picture sit closer simple :D DPI is just lower on 65 heh.

But ye over 2k for 27 inch damn lcd ??? ok if it was OLED monitor like but its god damn old tech at over 2 grand.

When I think about it you can buy 1080ti + 4k LG oled for price of just monitor. Maybe its not 4k@120hz but DAT image quality mint blacks and screen size is just better. My mate got 55 inch lg oled as hes gaming monitor for everything besides online fps got 1440p120hz 27 inch monitor for that.

Hehe - it is funny that displays have a similar "old tech" situation as GPUs. I completely agree - if I was forking out serious money on a display in 2018, anything but OLED I wouldn't feel good about it.

it trully is WTF situation LG been selling them OLED TV's since 2012 or something ??

I must admit I contemplated going oled but the sony 65xe9305 blew me away and was only £1650.
It is a bit laggy at 1080p but at 4k is a fantastic gaming / home cinema TV. I am generally a bit of a FALD snob but I do not know what sort of voodoo Sony put in this set to get such good black levels and such good HDR in an edge lit panel. (Shame it's android... But nothing is perfect).
In all honesty I wanted a 75xe9405 but it was just too expensive for my wallet.

Either way tho it's why I need a 4k gpu

OLED is where these monitors should be for that kind of pricing.

I know burn in would be a concern however I’d expect something to be implemented to prevent it if they ever went the monitor way.

Having had and tested nearly every top end set nothing comes close to blacks, viewing angles and motion. Love my B6.

They are all good displays, however they don’t quite give you that wow factor that OLED does.

I know my mate still thanks me that i convinced him buying oled instead of led lcd for 1k. When you send prooer 4k hdr signal its just mind blowing

Like it was star was xmas trip did some acid and watched Hal9000 edits of first 3 episodes in 24gb remastered epic quality rips.

You know that start of episode 3 mind blown that quality combined with 4d vision and stuff going out of screen I think it was best clearest thing iw ever seen im my life on screen.

Thats why i still keep my panasonic plasma from almost last generation only oled would be upgrade :)

On gaming side Witcher 3 with mods is jaw dropping in 4k hdr.

Still using my LG 50” Plasma. Such a great TV. Will probably still use it at least another year or two and wait for even more mature and cheaper OLED TV’s to come out. Would want a 65” one and those are slowly coming down in price now :D

There's really nothing that can prevent it, other than "safe" end user usage. If you display a large static element on an OLED screen for a long time (a taskbar for example), it will result in permanent burn in. There are plenty of anti-burn in technolgies in current OLED TVs (compensation cycles, pixel shifting, auto-dimming of static elements, screensavers), but ultimately none of them will save the panel if you display static content on it for too long. I don't think OLED will ever be suitable for "normal" desktop use, at least in its current form, unless you can live with the burn in. The issue is inherent to the technology, just as it was with plasma TVs. Self-emissive pixels will always degrade at a different rate depending on usage. The only real way around it would be to somehow make them so durable that it would be difficult/impossible to degrade them to the point of it being noticeable within the display's realistic lifespan. But we're a long way away from that, if it's even possible.

That said, they're fine for gaming on, so long as you're not going to be playing the same game all the time for hundreds of hours. The problems with burn in are somewhat overstated when it comes to normal, non-desktop monitor usage. Unless you watch 24 hour news channels all day every day.

I see everyone here talking about oled tv's and im suprised no one mentioned the samsung 2018 qled tv's they say picture qaulity is getting as good as the oled.

plus theyre really pushing the gaming side of things with options for freesync 1440p 120hz and really low input lag (7ms in vrr) plus they guarantee no burn in for 10 years.
http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/samsung-2018-qled-tvs-will-support-120hz-freesync-and-vrr.html

I would love oled tv but I sometimes game 10 hours at a time on same game so couldn't risk the burn in plus the input lag is a little on high side for my liking.

It's a real shame tvs are starting to come with freesync and these new 1180 still wont support it.

I know mate, I have an HDR OLED TV and it's just ridiculous how good it looks for relatively static content, particularly high contrast or high colour scenes. Haven't actually seen any burn-in yet, which is surprising - I was assuming it'd be as bad as my old plasma but so far so good. Not sure I'd wanna try gaming on an OLED though since HUDs would surely burn-in pretty quickly. Did you ever have a plasma? I doubt anything will be as good as those were for motion, it's just inherent to the technology. Maybe eventually OLEDs will be bright enough to implement black frame insertion to emulate plasma's motion resolution.

The only downside to modern tech is the lack of content. UHD HDR is amazing but I'm not buying a PS4 that I'll rarely use and I'm already bored of The Grand Tour. :p

QLED can never match the perfect blacks of OLED and apparently can't be made as thin or flexible, but they're probably a great compromise for those that use their monitors or TVs heavily for games. And don't even get me started about FreeSync. ;)
