I especially liked the bit where they had what was it $448 or something on screen while he talked about the 2060? but it was overlayed with the 1080ti product image LOL.

I was a bit tired at that point so might have the information a bit off.

I couldn't believe that. Huang has let the success go to his head and Nvidia are in arrogance mode for the last couple years because of record profits. They think they can do what they want but this inevitably leads to a fall.

1080p, 30fps, RTX on, not bad for a £1200+ GPU

It was a really dodgy presentation, i think plenty of people would have known about how hard ray tracing was to implement into games with playable frame rates (and them spending over an hour talking about this reinforced that). To me it seems like they've implemented it a generation early, that kind of frame rate at 1440p might have been more palatable given the huge performance hit it incurs. But instead of saying "this is what we have and this is what it can do", they just deflected this by showing demo's and hiding frame rates out of sight. Then come the show room floor and fraps running on these games it became all too clear why framerates for games with RT effects were hidden.

Yes they can make the argument that things are still slightly early in terms of drivers and games, but they still used them to show these effects off, and obviously they're in control of the demo stations on the show room floor so i really doubt someone just snuck a copy of fraps onto the machines. They really should have been more open about performance rather than letting what people suspected be so obvious on the showroom floor.

It does say from to be fair but you won't be getting a 2080ti anywhere near that LOL.

Wonder what the framerate in tomb raider would be like with the $500 card, 25 maybe?

My concern, and I did really want a 2070 or 2080, is that these cards are no faster than the 10xx, and all they have is the fancy lighting tech, which does look good btw, in a presentation/sales pitch, you would expect them to show how fast these things are compared to the previous 2 year old 10 series. Everything about it was bad, stupidly bad

Here is a something of importance that validates Gerard statement. Nvidia praising Ray Tracing at the cost of Rasterization effects found is in current games also comes at the cost of GameWorks.
Everything they implied negatively towards Gaming developers "lack of (fill in the blank)" comes from those developers that used Gameworks. Take a look at what the Gamework library consists of:

In reality they've villianized their own API, blamed others for it just to praise Ray Tracing. But it also came from Nvidia's library.
Wait, didn't they imply that you cannot do soft shadows without ray tracing? LOL

Early adopter tax cranked up to 11, and some gfx settings that looked dubious when toggled between on and off.

I would like to see presentations like this with full settings shown, on both on and off, how do we know they are not toggling other settings off to make what they are trying to sell you look better? It's not like they don't have previous for stacking the deck in favour of what they want to show
 
Remember the 1080 presentation? Ooh here it is running at 65c and over 2ghz!! Was a week or so later people found out it was overclocked and the cooler was running full tilt, something else they conveniently "forgot" to mention.
Yup, so true. But there is a saying, you can lead a thirsty horse to water but you can't make it drink comes to mind.

Exactly. There was a video showing Tomb Raider with RT ON. The actual graphic quality was set to "medium" at least

Yet the same game on Xbone X presentation looks amazing :eek:

So that looks like around ~45% average FPS increase, not too bad. The 2080Ti over 1080Ti should be about the same. So that would put the 2080Ti around 10% faster than the Titan V if it scales linearly.


Take another look. That's not what its saying when comparing 2080 vs 1080. It's more like around 1.5. When tensor cores are used vs no tensor cores they are saying it's 2.0x. Far from the 6x claimed in the keynote. hmmm...

And look at the HDR results LOL. Besides, the community said time and time again to take manufacture performance charts with a grain of salt.
