Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Just don't understand Nvidia not giving general gaming performance indicators at the reveal. They must've known the pricing would cause a storm but if the performance was looking really good it would offset some of the negativity.

Part of me feels that they've avoided giving performance metrics in terms of FPS so they can sell off as much of the Pascal stock as possible at current prices. But I suppose that only holds if there is a material increase in performance per core otherwise it's currently looking the price/performance ratio isn't moving at all on traditional games that won't take advantage of RT or tensor cores (2080 being sold at 1080ti price for 1080ti performance).

There is absolutely no reason to not give performance numbers unless they are junk. It's as simple as that.
Think about it. They didn't even give a "best case" example! Not one. They couldn't find one game that showed an improvement that would impress people. Just think about that. Everyone was expecting benchmarks. Nothing. Reeks of poor performance.

Yeah, think about it....

Random internet "guru" beanybot v most successful graphics company in the world

They don't know what they're doing....you MUST be right...right?? :D

Eh? They know what they are doing. But you can't sell a clio saying it goes as fast as a ferrari. So they just have said nothing. It's all they can do.

Equally if you build the fastest car in the world. You would tend to mention that and show it off.... Rather than go on and on about its new tyre design (Ray tracing).

Personally think that's a load of crap.

On a base level the new cards have more CUDA cores so they will be faster. Nvidia are just holding their cards to their chests as the uncertainty has meant people are buying Pascal cards instead. Realistically the 14th Sept isn't a long time to wait for proper benchmarks and they may have optimised the drivers better by then.

Not that either of these factors warrants the price imo.

yeah I had both the 980ti and then bought an asus 1070 stupidly cheap at £230 on thebay used for 2 days.

the performance clock for clock was roughly the same even when overclocked however the ti was hotter and used a fair chunk more power, only when I did the shunt mod on the 1070 (because it was constantly hitting power limits) did the 1070 stretch its legs over the 980ti

Cards have mor cuda. Therefore they will be amazing.

Hmmm bit more complicated than that I am afraid.
No doubt these cards will be faster than previous gen. That is a given. But the question is how much faster? The fact that nvidia refuses to say how much faster flags serious alarm bells with me.

Clearly, Nvidia have missed a massive trick not having you as Head of Marketing

I'm sure they're reading all your "jewels" here

I wouldn't move from sitting by the phone if I was you, the call must be coming very soon....:D

Never said amazing, nor did I say they'd be much faster, just faster.

You accuse Jay of being a shill but you're being the exact opposite. Bit hypocritical if you ask me.

Where. Are. The. Performance. Figures.

The lack of them speaks volumes. It is concerning.

Granted I am being very critical. Perhaps overly so. But the prices of these cards has really annoyed me. Its massively damaging to my hobby and the tech industry. Can I afford them? Yes. Am I peed off about having to pay the cost of a good holiday for one? Damn right I am.

Only thing I've commented on negatively about the new Nvidia range is the extreme pricing, and I don't think I'll be eating my words anytime soon on that.

I really don't see big issue about extreme pricing. I remembered back in 2014 I bought MSI GTX 970 Gaming for about £350 then 2 years later I expected MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X to cost around £350 but it was cost £110 more at £460 there on OCUK website so I was happy to pay £110 more for it then I sold MSI GTX 970 Gaming for around £180 a week later so no big deal.

I would do the same with either £550 RTX 2070 or £700 RTX 2080 then sold my wonderful MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X card for around £250 would save some money with RTX 2070 cost £300 or RTX 2080 cost £450. Is that extreme pricing? Nope. ;)

well I would say Nvidias marketing is evidentually poor, as many people are confused as to what they are up to

what was it 1.45 hours no real performance figures ?
when it doesnt go down well with the public they drop odd bits of info that dont really tell us much, rather than anything useful like actual benchmarks
The most pointless thing is youtube tech dudes telling us "its going to be really fast but I cant tell you how fast" ridiculous

im sure the new cards will be faster, but if you are hiking the price on a product, wouldnt you try and justfiy it?

either
a) 20xx is so much better than 10xx that anyone would be stupid to buy 10xx now, and NV/shops would be left with lots of undesirable stock
b) its not that much better than 10xx but lots more expensive, and that wouldnt be the awesome hype factor message they want on the launch of a new product
c) its just poor marketing

Interesting I will look forward to read reviews to decide between RTX 2070 and RTX 2080.

This does not really add anything to the thread.

Yes it is and I do genuinely wonder if the prices will come down but it's unlikely.

Remember, we've still got the full fat 2080 Plus to come and the Titan variant. Wonder how much they'll cost!
