Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Paid shills, always first on the free trips abroad hyping up any old crap.
This is why I only really watch GamersNexus and AdoredTV now for tech news. Digital Foundry too I find quite good. Just gets to the testing with no hyperbole. But as for the (typically) west coast American ones. Well they are just little kids to be honest, running around on all expenses paid trips saying what the leather jacketed man want's them to say. Jay, Harware Canucks, Bitwit. All dreadful. To be fair I don't think Linus is a shill, his business is large enough now he doesn't have to bend to Nvidia. But his videos now and less about tech and more "fluff" entertainment.

Wow they are forcing you - what scoundrels! Are they there right now with their billy clubs? Did they break one of your fingers and tell you you MUST buy one of the new RTX cards? I would report them if I were you, that must be illegal, surely?

If you want more performance then what alternative is there? suggestions?

There is a difference between wanting something and being forced to buy something. You wanting the cards is not the same as Nvidia forcing them on to you. There is a basic and fundamental principle of economics called "supply and demand", you should look it up.

Where. Are. The. Performance. Figures.

The lack of them speaks volumes. It is concerning.

Granted I am being very critical. Perhaps overly so. But the prices of these cards has really annoyed me. Its massively damaging to my hobby and the tech industry. Can I afford them? Yes. Am I peed off about having to pay the cost of a good holiday for one? Damn right I am.

Gotta agree it is a little concerning why they are holding back the reviews, but if they turn out to be tripe this will just damage them massively, surely their only come back from a poor presentation and pricing is to blow everything else out the water by 40%.
And as for the holiday yes it is the same price as getting away for a while, but when you get back all you have is photos on your camera and a hole in the bank account, with a 2080ti it'll still be nice and shiny in your system for a couple of years.

Yes you're right, he's confusing the 1070 with the 1080. Disagree about the 1070 and 980ti performance though. From the same site -

https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1070_review,1.html

the 1070 is on par or better than the 980ti. Of course the 980ti can generally OC really well but the 1070 is no slouch either and is better in newer titles.

I was more specifically referring to on release, the 1070 only had FE cards knocking around and not the custom AIB cards like the 980ti which could overclock really well, at the time the custom 980tis overclocked were on par or faster than the 1070. The custom 1070's now agreed faster than the equivalent 980tis. The guru3d reviews were comparing against FE cards hence the 1070 being faster.

1070 was faster out the box V 980Ti, six and half a dozen when you overclocked the Ti.

See above. Anyway I'm not fussed was just pointing out that the 1080 was always quite a bit faster than the 980ti.

I can't help but think that the 1080ti was such a beast of a card that Nvidia couldn't improve on it by a massive margin until the next process but had to release something now.

So ray tracing is what they went with to excite the consumers and will spend big with developers to get the ball rolling.

I would've held on to my 1080ti if I still had it and waited until next year as these RTX 20xx cards may have a short run.

Not giving us a choice is pretty much the same as forcing us imo, there is no alternative if we want more performance, simple as that.

You can twist it anyway you want, makes no difference to me.

I have a 3 year old daughter. So I would have family memories and seeing her joy throughout the holiday. That far outweighs a few more frames and handing over $1200 for leather jackets.
Alas this is a specific case to me. How I see if things are valuable. Bears no real relevance to anyone except me.

This ansel feature for taking raytraced screenshots is interesting:

https://wccftech.com/ansel-rtx-lets-you-take-ray-traced-pics/

But normally people want to show screenshots that represent the quality of their in game experience.
The 360 VR screenshots are interesting too.

oh god...... on the surface of it a nice thing to geek about with, but the reality is it means bullshots will be dialed up to 11... its like "photomode" on xbox 360 games..... it should never ever be used in promos but you know it will be.

irrc one of the forza adverts made a pieced together video showing the game running with "in engine" notice put on the advert. it was all lies.... well technically not, it WAS inengine, just not a representation of the gameplay as it was 1000s of photomode shots put together. I can see this happening here.

There is no comparison.

You can choose to purchase the card, or if you feel it isn't value for money you can choose not to buy the card. Just because you don't feel their is a suitable alternative doesn't mean you're being forced to buy anything.

Anyone who thinks that Nvidia is forcing you needs a reality check. Nobody is forcing you.

There are other cards such as 1080, 1080ti and Vega cards that play games on high resolution monitors already.

No need to be sour, I wouldn't choose a GPU over a holiday with my 4 year old either.
