Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

More performance and being able to maintain 100+ fps @ 3440x1440p rocks my boat. Unlike Vega the 2080 should be able to do just that :)

Will the 2080 be able to do that? I know the 1080Ti cannot and the 2080 and 1080i seem to be about equal in performance. Your money might have been better spent buying a Freesync monitor. And if you have a Freesync monitor, your gaming experience isn't going to improve that much, if at all.

Imagine this, the 2070 is really Nvidia's 2060 in disguise, by January 2019 Nvidia launch the real 2080Ti as an Ultra and lower prices to compensate and put the Ultra in at 2080Ti price. Bend over people lol. :D

The majority of people are still going for the solution which offers best price/performance ratio. For a long time consoles were no match for the PC, but still the consoles sold way better and games are still made primary for them, with PC being an afterthought.

Sure, you'll go for your passion and hobby as much as the wallet allows, but you're a (relative) minority. :)

in 2008 the global sales of consoles was around 80million units and has been steadily shrinking to the point its now less than 50 million per year up to 2017
GPU's sell north of 40million units per year (and saw a bump to around 15 million units per quarter for 3 of the 4 last quarters - though obviously not for gaming)

Console sales have been shrinking, GPU sales have been pretty flat, so what you are saying doesn't appear to be true

I think the console market will continue to shrink as it is caught between mobile devices like smart phones/tablets at the lower end and PCs at the higher end.

This is the more important set of metrics though:

What people need to consider from the PC gaming figures,is that overall they on the face of it seem similar to consoles. Except, the PC gaming figures also include things like browser games, and games like WoW,and MOBAs like Overwatch,DOTA 2,etc which don't need mega hardware and tend to be more CPU limited:

https://venturebeat.com/2018/04/30/...pected-to-hit-180-1-billion-in-revenues-2021/

A large percentage of the PC gaming revenue seems to be driven by MMOs and MOBA games:

https://www.superdataresearch.com/market-data/mmo-market/
https://www.juniperresearch.com/pre...ld-of-warcraft-other-mmo-moba-games-to-approa

The research found that whilst MMO games continue to dominate the PC games industry, MOBA games will become a crucial driver for the eSports (competitive playing of video games) market, which will itself reach $3.5 billion by 2021.

This is not a surprise as places like Twitch are dominated by such games. If you look at JPR around 80% of dGPU sales are under $250(which will run many of these MOBA and MMOs reasonably OK) and the rest is high end gaming dGPUs and workstation cards:

I disagree with you considering my Vega 64 was averaging 80fps in 3440x1440p I'm fairly certain a 1080Ti can already average 100fps at that resolution. And the 2080 will be atleast 5% faster on top.

P.S yes my monitor is an UW100hz freesync but am going to sell for a 144hz UW Freesync since the 2080 will get much more FPS. The new RTX cards are powerful beasts. :)

The problem with quoting console numbers is they are not all the same platform and should be considered separately, if you do this individually the consoles shares of the market are quite small compared to the PC.

You know that if you separate the console numbers out, and then add them up again, you get the same number right?

This is the more important set of metrics though:

I didn't say PC gaming was now bigger than all consoles combined, I said console hardware sales had halved in the same time period GPU sales were either flat or increased. You've taken a single years data to "prove" something I didn't mention and neither did the person I replied to. It seems to be a common misconception that GPU prices are driving people to console in their droves, the data says not. How can that be true if half as many people are buying consoles at all and PC GPU sales are the same as they were 10 years ago? Software sales may have remained flat for console due to increased prices / microtransactions / people buying more games per person, but as an assertion, people have stopped buying "overpriced" GPU's to get consoles is simply not true.

You know that if you separate the console numbers out, and then add them up again, you get the same number right?
Thats not what he said, but way to miss the point. Good skills.

Blocks have been available to preorder from EK for a few days now. I ordered mine as the email came through.

The compatibility list is currently looking a little sparse, though.

Yep, back plates a must for mr Duke. I would imagine it’s reference and supported but they have to wait for confirmation from all the vendors.

XSPC lot say blocks roughly 2 weeks after release also if you want another option. Quite fancy less plastic more metal/glass.

I always go for the copper / acetal blocks. Ordered a backplate this morning, although they'll ship later.

I agree with this guy. Only thing to note he has as much (lack of info) as we do.

Why do you keep posting this guys videos?
