Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I think it's because Nvidia clearly don't understand what a price creep is, you can get away with 5-15% per generation but slapping on a 70-80% increase in one go people are not going to be happy or willing to spend that much because they will quite rightfully feel they are being scammed.

Finally price is just to high.

That really is at the crux of all this. Had the 2080 come in at 1080Ti price, we would have been a bit miffed perhaps at the lack of improvement, but there wouldn't have been anything like the reaction we've seen. But the mining boom and subsequent bust which saw thousands of Pascal cards sitting on shelves, meant they had to price 20xx the way they did in order to clear all that old stock without losing vast sums of money. It was either that or delay its release until next year, which was never realistically an option for them I'm sure. In fact I don't even think that would have worked, as it seems FAR more 1080Ti's are being sold now than would have been had we still been hoping for a 2080 to beat it next year.

So they made loads of 1080 ti's to cash in on the mining boom and now they have too much stock so they now have made it look like a bargain to buy one very crafty.

That would imply that once the 10## stock has cleared then 20## cards might come down in price.

We can hope I guess.

They also apparently forced their partners to take some of the pascal stock if they wanted first dibs on the 20xx series gpu's. Nvidia makes a mistake and everyone else pays through the ass for it.

OCUK appear to have had more palit cards in stock as there was 9 in earlier now it says 10+. Still charging £200 more than other places with the same card in stock with no reason as to why, despite being asked directly about it.

OCUK should have listened to Jeremy Corbyn's speech about getting rid of the greed is good culture.

unless amd surprises us all i dont think nvidia give much of a monkeys for now. only way amd could one up them is either release a extremely cheap card or something reasonably priced that beats a 1080ti by a good 10-15% neither of which i see happening, i hope im wrong but i just dont see it this time around.

I doubt, even with smaller cores, on 7nm they are going to be able to shift stuff cheap - infact I doubt a 300-350mm2 die on 7nm will be cheaper atleast in the short to medium term than these huge 12FF dies.

Price won't be budging until 1080Ti is completely cleared off the shelves and out of stock everywhere... then and only then will we see some incentivising on 20xx series, perhaps free games at first. The 2070 is going to be an even harder sell though!

Prices have already budged. Palit and inno3d drops across etailers

A little, but within a narrow band and still way out ahead of 1080Ti pricing, that's all I meant. They're keeping the 20xx priced high so as to clear all that old stock out the way. We won't see any seriously incentivised deals until that's all gone.
