Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Apologies in advance for a stupid question!

Just got back into all things PC hardware related after a 10 year absence and built a Ryzen based system with a 1060 3GB (budget wouldn't stretch to the full fat version).

What would the equivalent GPU model based on the 1060 type class be called and when is it expected to land?

1080Ti->2080Ti
1080->2080
1070->2070

1060->??60

Go on, take a guess. ;)

Not expected until 2019.

Probably the 2060 but it will also probably be a lot more expensive than the 1060.

This gen of price hikes is forcing everyone back a step who has a budget or is price/perf conscious.

How do you no this mate..

I enquired on the geforce forums as to what the holdup was, the response i got was they reckon some fe cards may be in stock to buy around the middle of next week and that stock from partners is making the rounds. Actually got an email about it from a nvidia rep called Tim.

Nah, no way the Amiga could have done that at that framerate and that resolution, the Atari ST might of been able too but never the Amiga. ;)

:D:p:D

Well back in the day, I saw Juggler demo ran on Amiga A1000 in shop then on my Amiga A500 a year later but I never saw Juggler ran on Atari ST in shop, I assumed Atari ST was not very powerful to ran ray tracing demos or rendered Babylon 5 spaceship on 150 Atari STs. Only Amigas can do that.

I just found out someone probably ported or recreated Amiga Juggler demo for Atari ST but it displayed 16 colours and 4 frames slower than Amiga's superior 4096 colours.

Found ST Juggler on youtube.

Oh my god AtariTOS looked absolutely VILE and Juggler ran horrid slower and you can clearly see shadows edges artifacted from balls which did not happened compared to Amiga below.

No way, the Amiga had the far more muchly powerfuller chip :D :D

Yes absolutely.

Any of those old "ray tracing" demos [that ran close to or realtime] are horribly faked up anyhow. There are a couple of similar techniques used for demos on DX7, etc. but not particularly useful for putting into a game.

I had the barebones of a system up and running on DX7 at 100s of FPS by using a mixture of sparse voxel octree techniques and a horrid use of texture projection using unique coloured texels and turning off all filtering to cheaply fake up line picks via 2D scanning of a camera viewport, etc. but too many disadvantages to put it into use for a game.

I imagine 'horribly faked' maybe the term used to describe RTX once people realise what it is.
