Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I honestly think people buying these cards are just stupid with money.

I bought one and i'm not stupid with money. I was in the market for a GPU, wanted to buy top of the range to match the rest of my new build, and I had no problem affording it.

It's really that simple...

You have absolutely no right to judge others for how they choose to spend their disposable income.

I suspect that if I were to go through your monthly bank transactions, there would be a huge number of things that I would consider entirely superfluous and a huge waste of money.

But you probably wouldn't consider those things a waste, and more importantly, it would be none of my business.

Well, I was tempted by a 2070, but decided to just wait, and stuck my spare cash into more nVidia stocks.

Might treat myself for Christmas if there's a good run.

It’s tough not to have an opinion on this when the price increase is huge compared to the generational performance increase.

Most pc gamers can’t/won’t justify over £1k for a GPU, even the mainstream top end.

When people like you buy these cards at these prices you are raising the market for GPU pricing. Nvidia should not have launched with the RTX tax without games being available. It’s like preordering games.

I would prefer that the PC gaming market was healthier and better supported but acceptance of these prices by people does not improve this situation.

You have no moral obligation not to buy but I also cannot help wishing that no one bought these cards either.

When people such as yourself help to 'normalise' £500 mid end, £800 high end and £1300 enthusiast end GPU prices, in the process pushing more and more people out of the pastime they've enjoyed for years at high but not absurd price levels, then don't be surprised when there is push back form said people.

Shocker as monopoly company charges what they like for new technology that has no rival and been in development for a decade! More at six...

Nonsense...

I was accused of being stupid with my money for being able to afford an expensive GPU.

That’s not on...

The only reason I could afford one in the first place is because I’m actually pretty good at managing my money.

The prices are high because right now, AMD cannot compete. We should expect this to change at some point soon as they’ve announced that they’re moving their R&D budget over to GPU’s now that they’re competitive in the CPU arena again.

I think that NVidia’s price hikes and launch was just as bad as everyone else does, but I won’t be told that I’m stupid, by some faceless nobody on the internet, simply for spending my own money on something I chose to.

The people calling others stupid know absolutely nothing about people’s financial situations, and don’t even consider that some might be using the cards daily, in a professional capacity, as I am.

Some people need to get over themselves.

Stop being so sensitive, spending time on here rather than playing with your expensive new toy is a waste of time and money...

We have been here before this is from anandtech in 2007

"NVIDIA owns the high end graphics market. For the past six months, there has been no challenge to the performance leadership of the GeForce 8800 GTX. Since the emergence of Windows Vista, NVIDIA hardware has been the only platform to support DX10. And now, before AMD has come to market with any competing solution whatsoever, NVIDIA is releasing a refresh of its top of the line part.
The GeForce 8800 Ultra debuting today doesn't have any new features over the original 8800 GTX. The GPU is still manufactured using a 90nm process, and the transistor count hasn't changed. This is different silicon (A3 revision), but the GPU has only really been tweaked rather than redesigned.

Not only will NVIDIA's new part offer higher performance than the current leader, but it will introduce a new price point in the consumer graphics market moving well beyond the current $600 - $650 set by the 8800 GTX, skipping over the $700 mark to a new high of $830. That's right, this new high end graphics card will be priced $230 higher than the current performance leader. With such a big leap in price, we had hoped to see a proportional leap in performance. Unfortunately, for the 38% increase in price, we only get a ~10% increase in core and shader clock speeds, and a 20% increase in memory clock."

Of course people are going to have an opinion and there’s nothing wrong with wishing no one bought the cards in order to force down the prices.

But that’s a far cry from calling people stupid with their money for buying them, which is what I take umbrage with.

I think it's a good time to buy and something many GPU pricing moaners would be wise to do :). NV I think is a good long term purchase. Priced much higher than it used to be of course but still reckon it's got far to go from here. I was lucky enough to see the potential at around $18. Ive sold a lot but still one of my largest holdings (I manage my own pension)
Even if they drop further I'd say it's an even better time to buy then too.
