Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Frankly the best part of this is that midrange cards will drop in price.

The price of lesser cards is already dropping,
whether in anticipation of this or just that nvidia has flooded the market. Shop around (or even OcUK) and you'll find the RX580 for £250, 1070 for £350 and 1070ti for £400. Shame OcUK isn't making good margins on stock as I'd really prefer to buy here..

Haha. Hence, I've just bought a super cheap RX 580 8gb on spesh elsewhere for the actual purpose of playing games.

You can get some good deals in there.

ATM I have an EVGA 1080 FE in there at a very reasonable price and don't forget the warranty you get with their cards.

Having said that I have seen some stuff at silly prices.

Nice to see you selling on members market kaaps. I was always under the impression you never sold, so was a surprise to see that :)

Then don't max them? Going from max settings to literally one setting down usually listed as very high or high from max makes almost not difference visually. You have to have a still screen, or take screenshots of the same scene to play spot the difference. However the performance difference is noticeable going from max to one setting down. There has been many reviewers pointing this out and gaming like this at 4k a 1080ti can cope fine usually attaining over 60FPS. But however still not quite achieving that 100+FPS or near it. Possibly peaks but near there but averages are some what lower. For you Kaap you have the best and usually more than one card going when gaming so i get why you love to smack max settings. But for most run one card at enthusiast such as a 1080ti or titan X or XP. Only a minute few run more than one and you will find them on these forums. So 4k is possible and over 60FPS on quite a few titles but it has to be at reasonable settings. These are who these monitors are for. Not to forget for FPS games going to 4k and lowering quite a few settings to mix and match to get good visuals as well as 100FPS plus can mean a lot competitively. Trying to shoot some one at distance a 4k screen can make a big difference vs 1080p or 1440p because of the PPI. Makes it easy to spot people at range as well as aim.

I wish you would realise this sometimes lol.

Yeah. This is what I do. Majority of games ran maxed out for me no problems at 60fps when I had my 1080. The handful of games I played that did not I just reduced certain settings down by one notch which gave a huge FPS boost and could not even tell the difference in image quality in most if not all cases. That is what I love about 4K, it is like having graphics quality not available on 1440p monitors no matter what setting you use. Games still look better on High on 4K vs Ultra on 1440p :)

By default I turn off crappy settings like depth of field, motion blur etc in all games which give a nice little boost in FPS also.

I like to just set ultra and play, no messing to see if it works first, no reading of forums on how to gain a solid 60FPS. I imagine I am not alone in this, nor do I think that falls under e-peen.

I enjoy tinkering with settings. I find it is the beauty of PC gaming having all those options to customise things. As mentioned above, there are many settings that come with games like depth of field, motion blur etc that I turn off immediately as I never understand those settings. To me they always have been settings that require wasting FPS to make a game look worse.

In my opinion and experience, just because the developers put certain graphical options in a game, does not mean having them all on and maximum settings equals best possible image quality.

My mum has not been very well for quite a while and I am using the money for things she needed.
Sorry to hear that man. Hope she gets better soon.

The only card you have that I would be interested in is the Titan V. But knowing the new cards are coming out soon that will offer probably 80-90% of the performance for around 1/3rd the price is hard to swallow. Not that you would sell one anyway, I bet you love benching with those ;)

Yeah, I don't think E-Peen was the right word, whoops :p.

I do miss being able to just set everything to max without worries and enjoy the game knowing this is how it's designed to be played.

I think it will be £650-£800 price range at launch.

I think it’ll be much higher. Nvidia is the only player and they know. The same thing will happen like it has done for the last 5 years. Nvidia announce new GPU series. Everyone rushes to preorder then waits 5 months for said GPU. Loads sell the only GPU they have waiting for new series. Everyone gets angry waiting months for there GPU to show up.

Rinse, repeat

I'm playing Assassins Creed origins at the moment and due SLI not working I have had to drop settings to get a solid 60 fps at 1440p however it still looks great. I like the idea of just hitting max settings and leaving it alone as I am past the tinkering stage. However, with AC origins it actual works out ok so i'm relatively happy doing the same going forward.

+1 The aftermarket (ignoring that founders nonsense) launch price of the 1080 was $599, I reckon a $100 increase is likely to $699, particularly due to increased memory costs.

Extremely cheap clown versions £620-640 then £650-£700 for the cards that OCUK always get at great prices (MSI Armor, Palit Jetstream, Inno3D etc).
The premium cards like the Strix, EVGA FTW, AMP Extreme! are likely to be well over £700.

After the launch prices though, the predictable gouging is anyone's game.

It actually does. Often just setting everything to ultra and that being all you do, will mean you're actually compromising on frame rate, often for no actual real reason. It shouldn't be about what you set to get 60FPS, but what you should change that drops FPS for no visual improvement. There are plenty of games that offer settings that bring FPS down but don't show any improvement unless you scrutinise screen shots.

You are right, it’s not epeen, sounds more like jealousy.

Edit. Spelling.

See above. People will rarely be jealous. Attributing criticism to jealousy isn't a healthy way of dealing with criticism.

You miss my point. I do not wish to 'work' on a game that I spent money on before playing. I do not get a sense of accomplishment out of tweaking a game's settings as I write software for a living, I don't even use a FPS counter, only a limiter. I simply just want to hit play and enjoy myself.
