Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

AMD jumped from Radeon HD 7970 straight to R9 290X, skipping altogether 8000 series (only for rare OEM orders), 9000 series and 10000 series.
It means they kind of started again from 2 after reaching 8.

It doesn't matter so much how it is called, but for convenience, could have been called GTX 25 Ti or something with less symbols.

Gibbers seems to be talking 1080 Ti for the rest of the year, although of course they may sell them alongside a new range, or NV going to give everyone a surprise by keeping their suppliers a bit in the dark.
I wouldn't be too surprised if we get a more gaming focused next gen Titan first while retaining the old stuff for the rest of the range.

What's the deal with the 6+8 pin arranged like that with a big gap between them? That's not how it should be done... see below... gap should be on the other side. Custom cabling is going to look horrible if it ends up like that!

? gap between the physical connection on the socket won't be any different - they've just not got a position for 2x 8 pin so shifted the internal connectors on the 6 pin.

Always thought the 1170/1180 naming seemed naff. 2080 is much better :).
I always used 2070/2080 but spoffle kept popping up saying I did not know how to count. It clearly bothered him a lot and as most places started using 1170/80 I decided to go with that until we get the official name.

They may even go with something like 2800/2700 or something completely new, who knows.

TBH nVidia have changed numbers/naming sometimes even last minute take the 670ti for instance heh. So even if someone had information now that said 11xx they still might launch the cards under a different convention.

Yeah pretty much. But I recommend Jensen sticks with 1170/1180 otherwise he will get multiple angry letters from spoffle telling him he cannot count. Lol

Well surely going with 11xx allows NVidia to keep going with that naming convention for many more series than if they go 20xx.

But then again it is wccftech so who knows.:p

Honestly, anyone that has a 1080ti at the minute probably has barely a reason to upgrade, all fine and dandy getting the latest thing but unless the next series of cards is at least 50% faster its not really a worthwhile upgrade.

I am just looking forward to my next GPU. Come on NVidia, let me spend some cash :D
Haha, did the upgrade bug get to you Gregster? Or you waiting for the 1180Ti?

I fancy a 1170 personally, as long as it is not more than 10% slower than a 1080Ti, I will be buying that. That will be enough power for my needs until 7nm is out.

That sweet could become bitter-sweet once you've seen the price! :D
If it is too bad I may pick up 2nd hand 1080ti to put me on.
Anything up to £700 I will probably begrudgingly bite however (assuming it is better than 1080ti.) The VR Link port is worth a few quid to me.

I hope it is not dearer than current 1080ti RRP however so closer to £600 is where I am hoping

1080 founders edition release at £620 on OCUK if I remember correctly (and this was because founders edition was gouged to be RRP $100 more than for AIB cards).

Think likelier we will see the 1180 start at a £650-700 range.

£650 I think will be a definite bite but I would rather have aftermarket card I am not a fan (boom boom I am here all week folks) of the blowers
(Also am interested in the 1180+... 16gb card as opposed to 8 perhaps?)
