Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I'm just kind of assume the + means AIB cards but who knows
I thought this originally also, but it does make sense they would be the 16gb one’s.

I personally cannot bring myself to pay £600+ for a 1180 knowing that there is a good chance the 1180Ti will come out in 3-6 months time for a similar price like the 1080Ti did. An 1170 would give me something new to play with and keep me happy until then. When it does come out I can then decide at the time if I need the extra performance or just wait for 7nm 1280Ti which will likely be a beast and last a lot longer :)

Once we hit 7nm I get the feeling there will be a long wait again for a process shrink, so it is a good time to go for a 1280Ti me thinks :D

Haha, did the upgrade bug get to you Gregster? Or you waiting for the 1180Ti?

I fancy a 1170 personally, as long as it is not more than 10% slower than a 1080Ti, I will be buying that. That will be enough power for my needs until 7nm is out.
I will still wait it out for the Ti but the damned waiting is a killer lol. New tech always gets me moist :D

1170 (1270?) will be a good improvement if any of the supposed rumors are true

I'm going to make a wild guess and say a 1160/2060 would be more closer to the performance of a 980ti then a 1070.

So if the rumours/guessing about pricing are vaguely accurate I might as well drag my GTX 780 along until the 1170/2070 arrives rather than buy a 1080 as they should be similar in price ? ? ? ?

If you can wait 2-3 months if you want a custom, then yes. Probable Timeframe : 20August Announcement, 30th August Paperlaunch 1180. ~7 September Hard Launch. 1170 Launch 1 month later in october. 1170 customs in november.

The bottom PCB is for a GTX1080TI.

Looking at the size of the GPU pads, this looks much smaller than than the GP102 in the GTX1080TI,so is under 471MM2.

I estimate around 400MM2 to 420MM2 in size,just comparing relative sizes(roughly).

Interestingly the GM204 in the GTX980 was around 398MM2.

speculation on pricing post Aug 20:

1080 $499 (from $549) MSRP
1080ti $599 (from $699) MSRP

2080 $699-749
2070 $599

two things will happen - 10x gen will drop from MSRP (already has)
and 20x gen will increase from MSRP because supply will sell out.
which means im buying a 1080ti.

Tell me about it. I have been waiting for something new for what feels like forever now.

The 1170 seems like it will be the sweet spot and not lose too much in value until the 7nm stuff come out.

There is absolutely zero chance a 1170/2070 will be $599 in my opinion.

Quid version, 2070 will land at £499-525 imo.

bottom line - the old cards will be best bang for buck and the new gen will carry a premium, cos its new tech. same as every other release.

Another two to three years is a little too long to wait for me; I’ve had the 980 for four. The 1180ti should not only be a serious upgrade over my current card, but will be perfect long term for a new UW/1440p monitor.

Cant see the 1080 being £600, I’m thinking £699.

The 1080Ti is already very capable on UW/1440p, I had no issues using one on my X34. The 1180 should come with a 15-20% bump on that, so will be MORE than up to the task. No need to wait 6-9 months for the 1180Ti, unless you're also holding out on a newer monitor. Next year should (hopefully) so some more interesting models released, including more high refresh 4K models which will undoudtebly benefit from 1180Ti power... and anyone with the recent Asus 4K 144Hz monitor will also be holding out for that.

too high? it might be $549.

The 1070 FE cost $449, my guess is the 1170 FE will cost $499 at most.

$599 would be ludicrous.

For 1440p 1180Ti would definitely last a very long time. The games that worry me (excite me actually) are Star Citizen and Cyberpunk 2077. Those will probably even bring a 1280Ti to it’s knees at 4K.

I am not sure why I worry anyway, I get bored of a card after 12-24 months and fancy something new anyway. The trick is to just not buy a card that loses a lot of money, that way I can use the same money over and over again to upgrade to new stuff. Just need to add a little bit on top now and then. Other times I make a profit so it somewhat balances out. I made very nice profit when I sold my 295x2 and Nano. Broke even with my 1070 and 1080 sale :D

@Legend I doubt it will take more than 6 months for the 1180Ti this time, as 7nm is not far away.

Anyone who thinks the 2070 will be under £400 when the 1080 is still £450 is living in cloud cuckoo land
That I can agree with.

The 1170 FE will likely be over £400 and the 1080 will likely get a price cut and be under £400. If no price cut they will bundle it with many things to make it more attractive to people.

If you need to upgrade when the 1180 comes out go for it.

The price of the new cards won't be anything like what some people are quoting.

Likely price is going to be somewhere around £650 which will drop after the 1180 Ti is available.

NVidia like to aim for price points with new cards as they want maximum sales.

Having said that £650 is still a bit pricy for a new card that will only be a small margin faster than the existing 1080 Ti.

Buying a new card yonks before the game is released is not a good idea, until you know what it needs. What happens if it is launched at the end of next year, and Nvidia releases 7NM cards which make a GTX1080TI look underpowered??

Well that's the big unknown... we still don't know for sure, but if it ends up at 15-20%, that's not bad and more than a 'small' margin. At higher resolutions, that could make all the difference. Given how long Pascal has been out, Nvidia have certainly had time to make some strides, but we shall just have to wait and see...
