It would be lunacy if Vega doesn't outperform a 1080 by a handy margin.
I wont be buying until price drops kick in. Since i'm not 12 anymore i'm capable of waiting.
I am still looking at these numbers with GTX 980Ti vs GTX 1080, and I'm pretty impressed with how a custom GTX 980Ti with some decent Pre-OC actually holds up against GTX 1080.
The reference GTX 980Ti is about 28% slower in 2560x1440 but a MSI GTX 980Ti Gaming 6G is just 9% slower than the GTX 1080 in 2560x1440.

And with overclocking the GTX 980Ti you almost get 1080 performance !

Mine is a pretty low asic msi 6g, (66% iirc) but will easily hit 1480mhz core. You do need the fan ramped up at 80% or so as it will throttle at 63c if fan speed is lower. No big issue though as you barely hear it at 80% speed.MSI Gaming could probably be pushed harder too, making it more like 4-5%![]()

Well If GTX 1080 max support 2 way SLi, then I won't touch my 3x GTX 980Ti reference cards which all already are running at around 1450Mhz boost clock
However I might throw a GTX 1080 custom card into the wifes machine when they arrive!
You'l probably get WAY smoother FPS if you took out 1 of those TI's. You are literally paying to have a worse experience.![]()
Whooppee woo Gripen, the OVERCLOCKED 980 Ti is nearly as fast as a not even on the market yet 1080 at stock, and probably not yet optimised. Don't minimums stay the same when overclocking however, so an overclocked card may not even be as smooth actually playing games (forget benchmarks) as a non-overclocked card. What I mean is, a 980 Ti overclocked to exactly 1080 performance will still mean it's not as good when it comes to game smoothness.
Lets not forget the underlying thing either - the 1080 is all new tech
You know you want one, sell up buy, be true to yourself.
he he he he.

Hehe no with only official 2 way SLi support I'm skipping 1080 and waiting for 1080Ti at least - I won't go with lower performance than what my 3x980ti's gives me.

Nope I have a smooth ride, and I have nice FPS boost going from 2 to 3 way SLi.
I have been running 3 way SLi permantly since 2009 (3xGTX 280/470/580/670/780/970 now 980Ti). I have seen this video and I can't recognize those issues at all. I love running 3 card
Only 2 times in all the years I've had issues running 3 cards.
