So why has the vote share for right wing parties incl UKIP gone up in this OCUK poll compared to last time?
Have they gone up, looks very similar to me within error margins. The other poll was open longer and had more votes so one needs to wait a while longer. Even if it is a difference then it likely has an irrelevant underlying cause. perhaps the left-leaning people are so disgusted by the political make-up of these forums that they spend more time elsewhere and so haven't voted?

BTW I'm a UKIP supporter, but I don't argue for them on here anymore, as someone from one side or the other, always starts bleating on about immigration, which isn't really a reason I vote UKIP. I'm not really right wing either, I come from a staunch labour familly, and my dad even used to vote for the Socialist alternative for some time, which is the closest the UK (used) to have to communism.

The step to the right and away from Libertarianism by UKIP has alienated me somewhat, but they are still the only party that: Genuinely wants out of the EU (allowing them to reinstate fishing, proper agriculture policy, trade deals with foreign powers, no need to confrom to EU economic standards, be in charge of our own laws etc...), wants to reduce PFI, is pro nuclear and pro shale, doesn't treat the NHS like divine institute, is pro-grammar schools, doesn't want the whole country to go to university, will actually fund defence, downsize the BBC, and aims at the simplest taxation system out of any party.

The problem is you can't pick and choose policies, you are voting for a party. UKIP's main goals is to get out of Europe and to cut immigration. They also have a number of other unsavory policies regarding benefits, foreign aid, regressive taxes, tax-breaks for the rich, deregulation of banks, reducing labour rights, discrimination based on sexuality, etc.

Looking at you list I agree with many of them and fidn the conservative party to align very closely with them, so any reason you are against the conservatives? The cons are euro-skeptic enough to defend Britain's self-interest =, are pro-nuclear,pro-shale, don't want everyone to go to Uni, don't teat the NHS with divine status etc.

Tories seem like a better match without the extreme far right lurch and anti-immigration policies of UKIP.

As I 've said you live in the USA not Europe. Jesus H Christ.

You asked someone why they want to leave the EU and I asked you why you DON'T live in the EU\UK?

I do want to live in the UK/Europe. We will be returning to Europe before long, my wife and I have each applied for a job in Europe so we might move sooner rather than later, although current plans are a few more years in the US.

That's because a new thread will open after April 10th to see how the votes will change as the weeks go on.

Hopefully some of those UKIP votes will change to Tory, I know this forum isn't indicative of the country as a whole but the UKIP % is half of the Tory %, it's genuinely scary that 1/3 of the right wing voters may be seriously considering squandering their vote in protest as this would practically give Number 10 to Ed Miliband.

Time will determine the error margins I guess, but yes they have gone up, even the Lib Dems have gone up, and labour and the greens have gone down.

I'm all for reducing immigration, but its just not a high priority for me. I don't believe that the conservatives actually do want out of the EU, Cameron certainly doesn't, and I don't believe they are competant enough as a party to get enough sway in europe.
The EU was orignally a Western European initiative (after being a simple common market, which is the only thing the British had a direct say on), it is now a central euroean movement, and has its eyes firmly focused east. The interests of the UK are becoming less and less important for the block.

The Cons are also barely pro shale and nuclear, have made no effort to curb university numbers, and despite protestation from Labour, I don't think they've really changed the NHS.

I don't think that banking de-regulation, or loose regulation is a bad thing in itself, but problem comes when the regulation that is in place is not fit for purpose. Following 2008 the whole system should have had a major re-think of how they calculate risk. Instead the weak banks were saved, and ill fitting regulation has been strapped on. This means that the European sovereign debt problems were/are mishandled, and the lending industry has continued to move away from business investment to mortgages.

However, I don't think foreign aid should be scrapped, but it should be reduced and much more targetted to stem corruption, I certainly don't belive in gender based discrimination laws, but have seen no evidence of their proposal by UKIP, I don't belive in reducing labor rights for the sake of it, but modifications can be fine, and I have seen no evidence of such plans either.
I do much prefer their old tax proposals though, the 35% move doesn't make a great deal of sense.

I always picture the debate pyramid when dealing with these types. Castiel is probably the only poster here who gets close to the top of the pyramid, but the constant name calling from the bottom rung must be wearisome even for him.

What a lovely picture unfortunately i don't think i've done any of the bottom three, but please go on making yourself feel better.

The politicians must be rubbing their hands with glee watching the people fight each other.

Actually in the last poll throughout the vote the UKIP share was 19-20%

This time it's 22-23%, so some people may have switched.

Now I see your agenda. You're a bit of a user.

It is too early to tell. yesterday UKIP was at 24% now it is down to 22%.

The Polls are also not the same, last time there was no "Not voting/will spoil ballot" option which atm accounts for over 5% of the votes.

It's clear now why you don't like UKIP, if they get their way you might not be skilled enough to get back in the UK ;):D

yeah, i'm not very good at flipping burgers and stacking shelves which is what the UK immigrant demogrpahic is taking care of. My PhD is not what the UK needs right now so I might have to live somewhere else in Europe.

I still laugh at this. Not because it's not true, but that the public were given a referendum on AV which would have made this less of a problem and that was rejected. My mind still boggles at that.

AV doesn't prevent a vote being split and would have had no effect on the argument being made (which is a silly one I agree).

Would you want to leave a Western Europe EU (ie. as it was in 1996)?

Why don't you want to be in Europe?

Australia has a higher immigration rate than the UK, do you also want more immigrants? How would this point system works when Britain needs a great number of people you call unskilled, Britain needs factory works, fruit pickers, people to clean out pigsty's, serve food, maid service, work in McDonalds. Will there be points for ability to make a bed, flip burgers, stack shelves? Or will these people be excluded, if so how will we fill those job positions? Do you know what the economic effects would be?

How will the UKIP achieve this when they want to privatize the NHS and cut it's budget, if not compleltely get ride of it. I quote UKIPer Paul Nuttall "I would argue that the very existence of the NHS stifles competition"

How is uKIP any different. Nigel Farage has the exact same background as the established parties. UKIP is just an extreme Thatcherite party with even more regressive ideologies, tax cuts for the rich, deregulation of the banks, privitisation of services.

If spending increases the countries GDP and reduces the debt % then what is the problem, especially if the quality of life for many increases?

The Tories will cut things far less than UKIPs manifesto pledges, so if you are against cuts then the UKIP is absolutely the last party you should be voting for.

Did you read and comprehend their manifesto? Seems like you are gravely mistaken on many of the core policies.

I want the UK to be just a trading partner, like back in 1973 when we joined, I dont want open door immigration, that kills our youngsters chances of jobs, NHS is suffering, Schools needing extra staff to translate, houses to expensive, rent OTT all because we are overpopulated. We need to control what comes in, in a manageable way.

OZ do have more going in, but they only accept people who have skills that Australia need, they dont need an unskilled burger flipper. We have plenty of ukskilled that can do that type of work.

Paul Nuttall comment was a personal one, not UKip policy, UKip will put in an extra £3 Billion

You cant spend what you dont have, if you do you need to pay it back, look what Labour did last time, spend, spend, spend, now we the people are paying it back with heavy Austerity.

Correct with you on cuts, I dont agree with everything UKip, I want HS2, UKip will stop it.

I understand the manifesto thanks, no party can offer you everything you want.

More pathetic personal insults from you, someone who is quite clearly at the bottom of the debating pyramid.

What the truth hurts does it? But lets see.
You and your Mrs lived in the UK and left for a better life. Now you've used the USA for your purpose
you now hope that the UK stays in the EU so you can move around with ease.

That to me is a user. Not a person that wants to stay in the country that gave him a better life. Again we all now know your agenda.

Maybe if that happened, the Torys will listen to its voters in future.
Dont listen at your peril.
