My first thought was 'no chance', but reading the article I can't really find anything argue against. The SNP would be reelected in Scotland for delivering Devo Max. Cameron could kill any talk of him having 'broken the union' by pointing out that he has quelled the Scots will for independence and solved both the Barnett Formula and the West Lothian Question in one shrewd move. The SNP wouldn't even need to back a Tory government - moving out of the way (i.e. abstaining) would likely do the trick.

I expect moving Trident would have to come as part of the deal though.

I first suggested a "Rupert Murdoch coalition" (for both the Tories and the SNP are controlled by him) as a possibility a few days ago. I could see it happening - the two parties have a lot in common.

There is one other option.

The government no one’s talking about: the Tories propped up by the SNP

Yes, it sounds strange, especially given the rhetoric, but could the SNP really turn down devo Max if it was on the table and not lose substantial support, maybe more than they would for making a deal with the devil to get it.

I haven't read the article but on the basis that most of them will do anything for power, anything could happen. :D

10 Reasons to vote UKIP today

Well break it down, (and given that UKIP are targeting what 5 seats, how would they achieve any of this?):

1. Ukip would raise the personal allowance to a minimum of 13,000
A populist soundbite, naturally. Debateable as to whether its a good idea or not at the moment.

2. We would scrap the divisive and horrible policy that is the bedroom tax.
I suppose that remains to be seen.

3. We would put 12billion into the NHS over the course of the next parliament and finally put an end to the Labour and Tory politicisation of our health service.
UKIP are as much in favour of privatising the NHS as anyone.

4. It's time to reform immigration, that's why Ukip would take back control of our borders meaning we can implement a fair and ethical points based system.
How? Without an EU exit this is not possible. UKIP cannot deliver an EU exit.

5. We will introduce a flexible state pension, meaning you can take a slightly lower state pension so you can retire at 65 even as the state pension age increases.
This sounds like a terrible idea to me, in a similar fashion to the recent changes allowing people to take lump sums. How on earth have they costed this - if they have at all?

6. On housing, we promise a brownfield revolution to help build a million homes by 2020 and ease the problem of the housing crisis.
Politicians promise house building revolutions all the time.

7. On transport we'd scrap the white elephant vanity project that is HS2.
Arguably a good idea, but moving support to HS3 would make more sense.

8. We would withdraw from the common fisheries policy, meaning we can introduce a 12mile limit for UK fisherman and a 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone under UK control
Again, no they wouldn't. They might like too, but with the few MPs they are targeting this isn't possible.

9. We will be strict with foreign criminals by first of all preventing them who try to come into the country and then deport criminals who commit crimes here.
CF point 4.

10. The 10th reason is that only Ukip MP's will stand up for the English against the SNP.
UKIP would do a deal with the SNP if it meant any hope of gaining a sniff of power.

You could level that criticism at all of the parties to be fair.

I am in entire agreement with you.

What I still don't understand is how UKIP have managed to pull the wool over so many people's eyes into an almost fanatical belief that they are any different.

We have a party that have a proven track record of being the worst politicians in Europe. A party that have a proven record of taking advantage of the expenses system. A party that continually make utter fools of themselves in the media. A party that is run by an ex-establishment banker. To wit: a party that is exactly the same as every other party in British politics. Yet they still have a fanatical core who bleat that they are different and a breath of fresh air.

Didn't someone on here joke about the best time to vote in Tory area when everyone is at work but in a Labour area before they got out of bed midday? I had to smile this morning as only the Conservatives bothered canvassing at the train station for the commuters into London :D

I'm only going to vote locally. Locally I will be voted Lib Dems.

Nationally not bothered either way. Clearly the system of how much they want to take in is flawed from them all and are all just saying what we want to hear short term rather than taking the amounts really needed from us to fix the mess.

Yep, it's pretty crap ain't it.

As a thought, if Scotland becomes a fully autonomous, self-governing region of the United Kingdom, why would they continue to send MPs to Westminster? Maybe that's the masterstroke? The SNP aren't propping up the Tories if they are no longer involved in Westminster. 2020 would be interesting...

I asked the very same question and the response was Nigel gives a direct answer unlike other politicians. They point out that they are the underdog at every opportunity and you know how we Brits love an underdog.

I really do hope UKIP make no grounds today their politics are far too insular for a progressive country like ours.

He doesn't though! He's a master weaseler of questions, just like everyone else! The only time he's ever direct is when he's quipping a soundbite.
