When it's implemented properly, you can pretty much eliminate coalitions with PR. The problem is our terrible system of FPTP and voting for candidates instead of parties.

Under PR doesn't the biggest party get an extra number/boost of seats to aviod this? In the UK I take it that would mean the largest party got an extra 50/60 seats.

some inspiration for the undecided.

To be fair if you get Labour your likely to go to the other extreme and replace Hopkins with Sturgeon. :( Lose, lose situation.

That's, by definition, not proportional representation.

Some continental systems do use a system like that but it's very rare to have single party government in most European countries. If we had anything that is approaching PR we'd almost certainly have coalitions most of the time.

I still haven't decided who I will vote for... but I have sussed that if I did want the Conservatives to win (who haven't got a hope in hell in Bristol West), I'd have to vote Lib Dems to keep Labour out... how backwards is that?!

You might be better going by polling than previous result - Ashcroft polling here - which suggests you should vote Green :D

Ignoring the fact you were talking about the SNP and not Scotland. We get about 9% of the seats. Hardly a massive over respresentation.

Scotland gets both more MPs per head than the rest of the UK and powerful local representation through Holyrood. That doesn't seem entirely balanced, does it?

Amazing really how convincing the "don't vote for them they haven't got a chance here so it's a wasted vote" argument is. Once again, IMO people should vote the way they want and see what happens after the dust has settled.

Exaclty. I wonder how many so-called "safe" seats would still be safe if there was a >95% turnout in that constituency.
