German Grand Prix 2014, Hockenheim - Race 10/19

One of the best races this year I think, some great scraps throughout the field. More of this at the weekend please :D

It would be good to see it the other way round, with Rosberg fighting from the back. I think he has less of a disregard for his front wing than Lewis, so it would be interesting to see if he finished as high, and if he had more of his car left at the end :p

That's a terrible comparison. You might as well have compared England's 1966 team to a pint of custard!

Kimi is still Kimi.

Aye, but everything else around him, personalities of the team, the entire car, the rules, everything is different. Rooney won the premier league once , so why didn't England win the world cup?

Caught up with the race last night, good stuff! Loved all the close wheel to wheel racing, Alonso vs Ricciardo was brilliant.
Re: the retrieval of the Sauber, I don't think a safety car was needed. Double yellows are fine for a situation like that, they're off the racing line on the inside of the track, under double yellows there is no reason a race car should end up anywhere near the marshals.

Half apologising doesn't erase the fact he bumbled back onto the racing line completely unaware of who was around him and crashed into another driver because of it, and then immediately blamed them.

It wasnt 100 percent his fault though. If it was then lewis wouldnt even be apologising. They both misread the corner and thats all there is to it. Dont forget also that lewis' front right wheel stopped turning when he slammed the brakes on. A.k.a a lockup... so obviously he didnt make the apex where he intended to when his foot pushed the brake pedal down.

Also it wasnt as if button went off the track and turned back onto the racing line...

You have to wonder, if a German wasn't leading the German race, would the safety car have been deployed?!
Crazy to watch marshals running across a track like that!

The SC decision is with Charlie rather than the stewards.

Its crazy that there wasn't a SC. Its a blind corner and there were marshals coming from the opposite side of the track. The TR on fire I can understand as it was visible very early on to the drivers and the marshals were next to it. But the Sutil spin was far to dangerous to be covered under double yellows and I expect Charlie might regret not sending one out once he saw those guys running across the racing line.

It did seem a little strange, I was expecting a safety car, it seemed they took a little while about the decision too.

Only thing I can think is that a lot of the cars went streaming past fairly soon after it happened without issue and by the time it took for them to decide pretty much all the cars had passed it, so they knew it was there.

Certainly a tragedy but even the wikipedia entry notes that "both marshals crossed the track without prior permission". Now I assume the marshals at Hockenheim did have permission which with race control knowing where all cars then they could easily advise them if and when there is a big enough gap to cross. It doesn't remove all danger as there is always danger of marshalls being on track but it should mean there isn't a repeat of that incident.

Should have been a safety car absolutely.
Can you imagine if someone lost control at that corner and hit a Marshall. Would be hell to pay!
Just not worth it
