Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Very interested to see whos playing Gozer, can't be the original actress, she's not been in anything really since House on Haunted Hill in 99, plus she looks as rough as a badgers arse these days =/

Wasn't it a writer for the Guardian that disliked Terry Pratchett's books without ever reading any of them?

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Not sure what their particular beef is with this one but their visceral hatred for Clarkson and his Farm was off the charts again and again and when it turned out to be a major success they finally admitted they kind of liked it. Made me laugh anyway.

I really don't like the original Ghostbusters, but that won't colour my opinion of the new movie.

The original movies were ok fun for an hour or so and then ok I'm done, whats next? This seems to be yet another excuse to try and leverage some cash out of old but succesful franchises since hollywood doesn't seem to have any original ideas of late, we'll see I guess.

I recently saw on twitter someone bring up the thing about hollywood being nothing remakes these days by pointing out that there were three versions The Maltese Falcon in about ten years.

How many original ideas or IP's have gone on to be successful movies? Not many, but many more have flopped. That's why we see remakes and sequels.

True, but I wonder how many sequels and/or remakes especially ever make it big vs those that flopped. For me I'd say that the percentages of original films that are big vs flop is probably the same percentage (or close to) as that of remakes/sequels that make it big or flop.

Sequels - I understand why a business man new to the industry might think that "as Film A did well then the sequel Film B will also do well" and would therefore be more willing to risk spending money on it, but 100+ years of movie-making experience has shown that it simply isn't case enough of the time to justify the risk. Worse is that even in the biggest of franchises a single "bad" film can seem to do irreparable harm to the franchise (Godfather 3, Star Wars Ep7, Indiana Jones 4 etc) for so long that the OG fan-base moves on and the franchise might actually die.

Re-makes - Taking one of my favourite films for example, RoboCop (1987), if I was a studio exec I would be thinking "who is going to be watching this 2014 remake and quoting lines from it in 20 years time?" and yet the original will still be watched, quoted and loved 50+ years after its release and that same sad tale of an unnecessary remake failing to surpass (or even equal) the original is repeated time after time (the 2014 version possibly broke even, maybe).

As for Ghostbusters Afterlife, I find its positioned a little awkwardly between a sequel to GB2 and a possible remake/reboot of the IP using new younger actors for a new generation and I hope it succeeds as I like the GB "world" but I'm just hoping it's a good film 1st and then a good GB film 2nd.

Clip at 5:50 showing them encountering muncher for the first time. Looks like a sad grumpy old man for a moment, :D. A tonne better looking than the video game ghosts in the 2016 abortion. Music is on point as well.

The final 3rd trailer has leaked online. Looks like it was recorded in a cinema in South America somewhere.

It's very spoiler filled! It does feature the theme tune though! :D

Seems odd it would be out in south america but nowhere else, they usually launch these trailers online at the same time. Seen someone posting it on reddit yesterday but scrolled past quickly.

It gives away a lot of stuff. Great vibes from it though. Sometimes the Latin American countries get cinema trailers first for some reason. Seen it happen before.
