Gibbo is getting an R600!!

I'd be interested in how much power it uses and how hot it gets compared to the x1950 please. :) Also, could you try the half life 2 demo on it or something similar? :)

How abouts I lend the card and use my copy of F.E.A.R to test it. :)

Why when they can easily download fear combat which is free and do a lan match against the 8800 card. ;)

Btw why put it in a ultima i think you called it, premade comp. Why not do a custom job? Best cpu you have in stock, best motherboard, ram etc. Oc everything. Oh yeah can you do some oc of the card, see how far it can be pushed?

Im sure one of them that works at ocuk will have some good games at home to bring into work to try. If not then shame on ocuk. :p

Retail Fear has a stress test and the game in general probably has more graphical hooo-har.

I was under the impression that the Ultima is custom made by OCUK.

edit

An example of one of the Ultimas:

Intel Quad Core QX6700 2.66GHz, Antec P900+1000W PSU, 2GB 1000MHz DDR2, 300GB SATA2 RAID 0 HDDs, DVD-Writer, 2xGeForce 8800GTX SLi, Onboard 7.1 Audio, Gigabit LAN, XP Professional Operating System.

Also you'd need to bump the voltages to get anything descent out of it overclock wise, and I doubt there's any software that'll be up to the job just yet.

Gibbo,

When you do the testing can you report back on how the drivers are please? i.e did they install ok, any bugs/glitches noticeable, etc. I just want to compare them to Nvidia's one's. :)

And I'd say, like most have said, can you dual-boot and try benchmarks on Vista and XP please.

Be nice to know about temperature and noise from the card also, not just the FPS.

Cheers. :)

Yeah tru, i would blow my wages every month on games n parts if i worked there :D :D.....any jobs goin btw ;)

You know if theR600 does kick the GTX butts and is priced cheaper, im sure a lot of ppl will be selling their old gts.

I suspect it will be a little quicker, not a lot overall, and it will be circa £400-425.
I can't see it being cheaper than a GTX TBH.

Zombie.. Is the cpu and ram overclocked tho?

I don't know, but I doubt it.

My point is the hardware is rediculously over powered as it is.

As for overclocking the card, with only one of them, why potentially fry it? That's forgetting that there's no actual software that would let you do it effectively.

Somehow i dont think its going to happen, and until any real Dx10 game comes thru we wont really know.

Don't really care anymore tbh as long as the performance is not something ridiculously low. I just want them to release the cards ASAP so we can all have cheaper cards.

but as you know I will give a subtle hint and post many pictures for you all. :)

let me guess it will be a really awesome must-buy item? ;)

no offense but every time a new card comes out an advert for it appears and you go around telling us all how great it is compared to <insert previous highly recommended card here>... well it is your job afterall...

Thx for the info, my 700W PSU should do fine anyway, although 65nm would have been nice. :p
Also, it looks to be shorter than the GTX, I just seriously hope that the price will be around the 450£ mark, otherwise I don't see many buying one

Off topic:
Ah, I remember when I bought a Voodoo3 card back in my day, what a beast that was.
Remember AvP with full eyecandy :p

£110 for voodoo2
Rubbish. The Voodoo2 12MB cards were £230 when first released, I know because I had one of the very first ones. They'd only dropped to £170 when I added the second for the original "SLI" :)

cards are more expensive now than before for many reasons
inflation
more money invested
among a few off the things

It is shorter than the GTX, its the same length as the x1900/x1950's/GTS at only 9.5 inches, the GTX is about 10.5 inches. :)

It wont matter if its faster than the GTX as Nvidia are going to release the GTX beating 8800 Ultra to spoil ATi's party, its going to be interesting as the Ultra is supposed to be getting launched with their mid-range cards on the 17th, and thats a week before R600, will be funny if the R600 is only around GTX performance as the 8800 Ultra will be faster than the R600 if thast the case, and it would have been launched before it, oh dear. :D

Assuming all goes to plan, as rumours are Nv's mid-range cards have been delayed due to a re-spin, mind you that might not affect 8800 Ultra and that could still be launched on the 17th by itself i suppose, just have to wait and see. :)

Interesting interview here with AMD at CeBit about the R600, says they got WHQL certification for their Vista drivers in November, they are streets ahead of Nvidia in the driver dept.
