Work it out,

8800 GTX is old now at six months in GFX terms.

R600 comes along after a massive wait.

Then BOOM NV release 8900 making R600 slow old tech.

Please, did you not see the last R600 thread before it was deleted due to the massive train wreck it had turned into, culminating in the threat of physical violence - always a winner esp. when made over the Internet. One of many over the last few months. The same people end up in these threads in circular debates that end up in flames and insults. Many people don't post to this particular board anymore (and have stated so) due to the rabid fanboism from both sides.

With the release of the 8800 and the delay of the R600, it has just got worse of late.

Well if you guys want this thread to go the same route your doing a fantastic job of stirring the excrement. :)

how can i work it out with no well...anything to do with R600, no reports saying how fast/slow it is, nothing, so how can you be so sure that NVIDIA will release 8900 and that will immediately outdate R600, when non of us have any idea how fast the said product is going to be

Why do you assume they have games for rma testing? Gibbo already said they only have 3DMark. Ther are plenty of threads about guys who rma'd cards with game-specific problems, and had their cards returned as "working fine".

Erm???. What have you been smoking? :0). Read my post again please. I'll let you off this time!!! ;) . I said that the games would be in the office already if OCUK did use actual games for RMA testing. Gibbo saying that they have only got 3dMark06 to test with so that was a clear indication that no games are to be had for testing  . Noob lol (joke).

Man, I'm so glad I delayed buying a new PC until the end of April/May. C2D and QuadCore cuts coming on the 22nd of April and now this...

Not that I am stupid enough to pay £500 for a graphics card on the day it gets released - I'm just hoping this puts downward pressure on DX10 cards priced at £200-250 so that you can get a decent C2D setup for Crysis, inter alia, on a reasonable budget.

Totally agree there matey, im just waiting for the prices to drop a bit too, would love an 8800 but cant really justify the cost atm as will have to upgrade PSU aswell to a goodun. im all about the budget! ;)

I was gonna buy a 8800GTS for £220 but why pay that today for something that will cost £150 in a month? Same with the CPUs...the only problem is this never ends; in May there will be something else that's about to come out and you can end up putting it off forever, which is what I've been doing :)

Hi there

Our technical department have some games, but how to benchmark them I ham clueless on.

They have a demo of Fear and full version of some Need for Speed game. They use these for testing along with 3D Mark along with ATI/NVIDIA tech demo's.

Game specific errors are generally not down to VGA faults but more likely games that require a patch to stop visual corruptions.

I agree there is definately a line where you eventually have to bite the bullit. I'm surviving on my setup (in my sig) and it should last another 4-6 months before my pining for more power becomes too much :D

Gibbo, just as a small point (I know its easy to forget; not intending this post as an insult), when benching the R600, make sure you go into the ATI drivers and set the card to performance settings, rather than the standard 'balanced' ATI's cards are usually set to in drivers as default :)

Just saying as its customary to benchy at performance not balanced settings, and I know its an easy setting to overlook when waiting excitedly to test a card (or presell a product ;))

No its not, R600's aint released till 23rd-24th, thats a lot longer than 7 days to find out how good/bad it is. :)

Take everything you read/hear with a pinch of salt until its actually released.

Tsk, you're forgetting the rumours that someone overheard in a pub in Accrington that the R600 will not only have immense graphical power, but also control time, so it can go back to before the G80 was released and win the DX10 race for release.

Hi there

Your talking to someone who used to be a 3D Mark worldwide record holder, I won't dismiss such settings. :D ;)

lol i always forget doing that in benchies
my settings are on high quality now i know why my gpu sucks on benchies

When you get it, can you play around with the cooling solution and comment on noise levels... this is a very important factor to many people like myself when purchasing a new graphics card.

Will you be getting a retail version or will it be one of the special longer oem ones that we've seen pictures of on various tech sites recently?

Really looking forward to this, my 6800gt is in great need of relacement. :)

Edit: The supreme commander demo is pretty gpu intensive, if you run that and run fraps (free version will do) and tell us what sort of rough numbers you're getting on full detail settings that would probably be a decent benchmark.
