Gibbo is getting an R600!!

Gibbo,
Great news! I look forward to your results and more importantly what you think about the card.

I think its safe to say that along with performance a lot of people will be interested in knowing how loud the card is under load? Oh and how well the thing overclocks :D

Have fun mate.

I don't care if R600 turns out to be "old tech". At least it will probably work in vista...lol. Plus I can stick two of them on my badaxe 2 :)

We wont know that untill it's actually tested in Vista. As long as the results are accurate to the actual retail product - I'm hoping he does have a retail card in his hands then I & like many others will be more happier.

Have to agree though, it better beat the 8800GTX by around 20%, personally Id rather have a graphics card that DOES properly, also whose to say how well either the Nvidia cards or ATI R600 will do when running actual DX10 games. . . . ?

There isnt any way to test these with DX10 Games is there!! so no conclusive evidence as to how these cards really perform.!!!!!

Hi there

Your talking to someone who used to be a 3D Mark worldwide record holder, I won't dismiss such settings. :D ;)

I didnt think you would, I remember you saying about such things before, but Im sure we all know too well the power of excitement and presales! :D

Good luck and lets see these things go.

Providing ATI bring out some nice competition in either the speed, or in price: perf departments, at the end of the day there'll be a lot of happy people!

If they're 10-20% faster, excellent, if they produce the same performance at 4/5ths of the cost, excellent, if they can do one of those two (or better) then Im sure a lot of the doommongers for ATI will change thier tunes; and if not, then at least we will still at least have some price competition for Nvidia on our hands which is better for us all!

Go go Gibbo!

Btw, if you want to benchmark some demo's for us, fraps is very easy to use, as you can set it to display average fps etc, and then take screenprints etc :)

What planet you on? stalker and SupCom NOT graphically intensive? Lol

I would add to the list tomb raider legend if possible as currently the 8800 series is the only card that can really handle it in next gen mode and it would be interesting to see how R600 compares. I think theres a demo but not sure if you can enable next gen mode or not.

Read my post again, perhaps the whole thread as well.

Last time i looked you had to pay for those games and they are not exactly graphically intensive either. (demo doesn't tax modern machines)

If there are other programmes/benchmarks which are available free to dowload, post me a link and we shall happily run that too. Please bear in mind we won't be going out buying games but if anyone provides a link to a free legal download we shall happily test that too.

Take your own advice...

Gibbo, just as a small point (I know its easy to forget; not intending this post as an insult), when benching the R600, make sure you go into the ATI drivers and set the card to performance settings, rather than the standard 'balanced' ATI's cards are usually set to in drivers as default :)

Just saying as its customary to benchy at performance not balanced settings, and I know its an easy setting to overlook when waiting excitedly to test a card (or presell a product ;))

I always bench at stock settings and thought most did.

Me too, if you are pushing for a WR then you use every trick, but performance for me is no good if it looks poor, I would rather it was done at stock driver settings, having said that 3DM06 is not going to give us an example of how games run TBH.
Can someone tell me when the NDA is due to be lifted Plllllleeeeeeeeease ? :)

I would rather have a measure of the cards true performance, it may be customary amongst the benchmarking fanatics but I'm sure the people on this forum want to see what the card is like at stock without such cheats/tweaks.

As a completely OT post, I saw Gibbo's Saleen outside OcUK last week when I popped in for some DVD-Rs and an SD card for Mum - very nice! (made my Rover pale in comparison :p )

I agree. However it would be nice to see a range of results under a range of conditions, if anything to satisfy the needs of the multitude of variations of users on this board.
