Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

Hello,

I've just bought a motherboard/processor/ram kit from overclockers (DS3 C2D 6300 and 1gig of geil ram) and everything thing is working fine, except that my ide hard drive and ide dvd burner are showing up as scsi devices in windows xp device manager. Any thoughts appreciated

Another rig specs

Just to add I have an E6600 running at 3.6 with DS4 and 2 GB 10th anniversary Crucial at 800 4-4-4-12. Can't do orphus or Intel TAT tester cos it's on stock intel cooler atm ;)

Will be underwater soon on a Storm extreme, followed guide opn page 1, RAM at 2.1 might push to 2.2, CPU only at 1.35v - whilst running TAT tester temps got to 70C when rig rebooted - cant's call it a PC as it's sat on the motherboard box!

Whilst setting up the BIOS (without knowing what we were doin') we set RAM multiplier to 2.5 and RAM ran at 1000MHz:eek: on 2.1v, 5-3-3-15 timings. Didn't test or bench though.

Sisoft give encouraging benches - will just need to get stable under water!

Main reason for posting to say that Crucial 10th Anniversary seem also comp[atible with the DS4 - mines a version 1.0 ordered Sunday from OC-UK - what's difference between version 1 and 2.0?

Cheers

Anyone know why after reboots sometimes windows will seem to find the sound card again like its a new device? Using X-Fi Music..

Also, regarding seagate drives and Sata2.. I have removed the jumpers and i'm using the intel sata controller. Does it support sata2? do I need extra drivers to enable it or is it automatic?

IDE is no longer native on these boards and is added in by a second chip - which shows up as a SCSI to XP. It should cause you no heartache.

Hi, recently purchased ds3 with c2d 6600 and giel 6400 ultra low latency ram. Im having a problem as the bios is reporting that the cpu is 128c all the time.

I get this as well, definitley something to do with the Tuniq Tower as when I loosen the screws the temperature reports normal. The "H" plate fastening the heatsink block to the IHS is very very close to one of the motherboard heatsinks, I thought it was touching at first.

Built (4300 and Gigabyte S3, Geil PC800 Value ram)

Booted

A modest 75% overclock right out of the box.

Will push further after I have installed windows.

Thanks for the execellent guide - the HSF caused some initial consternation!

This is a bit of a double post with another thread, apologies for that but I have a bit of a concerning question.

Just built a DS3 + e4300 + 2 gig team elite ram + arctic cooling freezer 7 pro + antec 900.

Everything works fine and all is still at stock for the mo. One thing is worrying me though. The fan on ac freezer 7 hasn't come on at all yet. Temperatures in TAT are 30 for both cores. I haven't changed any of the settings for fan mgt in the bios.

I know the antec 900 keeps things very cool. The acf 7 pro heatsink sits right in front of a 120mm and just under a 200mm exhaust fans, so there is probably lots of air traveling over it. But still, shouldn't the cpu fan have come on at some point?

Cheers
Alex

Fan will only come on when it needs it.

Try loading the cores once it starts to heat up the fan should kick in.

Other option is set your fan to be run via PWM instead.

MonsterMunch - My Saviour

I have been driven to drink (well more than normal) whith my set up.
I have the exact problem you outline regarding the pc fans starting and stopping in a loop, without posting or getting a beep.
I've had three motherboards (all the same) and experienced the same problem. I changed the graphics card (same one).
I trawled google trying to find the answer and came up with so many posibilities, i was none the wiser.

My motherboard is now in RMA and i shall be ringing tomorrow to suggest that it is tested with a Intel Core 2 Duo and Corsair 1GB DDR2 667 MHz 128MBx64 RAM.

I'm now concerned as to what ram to chose and what to do with the ram i have!

How do i know which version of the Motherboard i have?

How can i solve my pc problem?

Thanks
Andy

Just out of curiosity what CPU cooler are you using?

I ask this as I myself have had problems with the DS3 and Tuniq Tower, eventually found the problem and it turned out that the backplate from the Tuniq was shorting on the pins from the motherboard socket and causing the system to either cycle boot or Blue Screen at random times with all sorts of errors.

I solved this by sticking 4 strips of Gasket card onto the the legs of the backplate.
It looks like a fault with the backplate as the legs are raised upto the same height as the centre area which holds the sticky pad and as a result the pins from the CPU socket end up touching it and causing a short.

Not sure if that will help ya or not, but even if you aint using the Tuniq it may still be worth checking the backplate to make sure it is not touching the pins that protrude through the back of the motherboard CPU socket.

Bry.

Okay so I have 2 hard drives and 2 hard drive lights on the front of my case, how do I got about connecting both lights to the motherboard? or is this not possible?

speak of the devil - it seems it all works now?!

Ive pushed it up to 3ghz with no problems under stress

me---> :cool:

i keep getting the same problem guys, every time i overclock, even by 1mhz on the fsb, it boots as far as a first screen and then resets back to its original settings (2.4GHz)

any ideas :( :(

Hi Guys...
I am about to build my first ever Intel System ever and i need some help with regards to which memory i should buy as i am looking to go for DS3 Motherboard. Below is what i think i will buy ( feel free to advise )

Gigabyte GA 965P DS3 Mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Cpu Cooler

Now i am not sure which RAM to get
OCZ (OCZ2P800R22GK) or
GeIL (GX22GB6400UDC)

I am definately looking to do some overclocking. So please advise

I have the DS3 with an e6600 and am using 2gb Geil ddr2 800 with absolutely no issues what so ever. I also went for the AC freezer 7 Pro, keeps everything nice and cool without being noisey.
