Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

When AHCI is enabled you are supposed to benefit from Native Command Queuing, SATA hot-swapping and the other niceties of the SATA II specification. TBH, it doesn't make a great deal of difference to the average desktop user. If you have SATA II drives and want to make use of NCQ etc. then enable AHCI. However, you should be aware that if you have already installed Windows without AHCI enabled, it probably won't boot. If you are going to install Windows with AHCI already enabled in the BIOS then you will probably need to load drivers during set-up.

I've recently upgraded my rig to venture back to the overclocking fold following the last few years at pure stock speeds. I have managed to get up to a stable 385 bus speed (on auto voltage), but was hoping to at least get into the 400s. The problem is not the CPU as I have tried 400 with the multiplier at 6 also with the same problems, and RAM is not the issue as it would be running within normal spec.

I have read all of this thread to get ideas of settings and followed all the advice re: Bios settings (i.e. disable virtually everything!). I have also tried on both auto and manual voltages, up to the max the board allows (0.35 on MB related ones), but the Motherboard refuses to post at 400. I have tried both the F5 Bios that the board shipped with as well as the latest F8 Bios.

My Kit specs are:
2x1GB OCZ Rev2.0 Platinum 6400 C4
E6300 Retail
Arctic Freezer Pro 7
DS4 (Rev 1) F5 Bios
500W Antec SmartPower ATX2.0 PSU
7900GS
WinXP Home

The only week point I can see is potentially the PSU. Has anyone had any success overclocking the DS4 with this PSU? Should a better PSU give me a better overclock - a hundred odd quid is quite a lot of extra dosh to spend if it is not likely to give me a much bigger OC?

I would appreciate any other thoughts on why I cannot get anywhere near the Bus speeds that most people seam to be able to get to with the DS3 let alone the DS4. Have I just been unlucky with my board?

Cheers

Your PSU should be more than enough.

Everything looks ok. Have you tried 410mhz? Sometimes there's a hole between 400mhz and 410mhz.

Tho setting the vcore manually to 1.425v might help a lot.

Just tried that and unfortunately I get the same problem as with 400. The g card signal goes then the motherboard boots up with the default speeds a few moments later (from the backup bios presumably) :(

Again, I tried with auto and manual voltages, going up to +0.35 on the MB based settings with +0.3 on the RAM and 1.5V on the CPU.

hi

just built my first ever system , i would like to overclock my e6300 a little
just so i can get good performance when gaming

i have a ds4 (rev1) latest f8 bios mobo

if i followed the mini clocking guide from page 1 would that be ok?

also if i overclock the cpu do have to overclock the ram as well?

if so what voltage do i add on the ram i have ocz pc2- 6400 platinum revision 2 gigddr2?

cheers

If you follow the guide on the first page you will be fine. It says to set the memory multiplier to x2, and by doing that you won't start overclocking your RAM till you hit a 400mhz fsb.

But it would be wise to set your memory voltage (vdimm) to 2.0v (+2) or 2.1v (+3) before you start.

hi

where it says {increase the system bus frequency} in the overclock guide on first page is there a certain amount i should go up each time or do i just increase it to where i want to be able to run my e6330

i would like to get my e6300 up to about 2.8ghz -3.0ghz im not looking to overclock the ram or anything else

cheers

cheers for that just one thing in order to increase the speed to the 400mhz as above so i get it to about 2.8ghz

is it the cpu host frequency i have to change to get my desired speed?

thanks :)

cheers i have the ocz 6400 platinum ddr2 2 gig ram (the one on the home page of oc offer one)

what vdimm voltage do i set it at?

as it says 1.9v-2.0v in the specs and then under that it has 2.2v*evp*

thanks

hi

You can set the first four timings to 4-4-4-12 and leave the rest on auto. The OCZ should be able to do upto 900mhz at 4-4-4-12 @2.1v.
