Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

Hi, I recently Updated my computer with the items listed below and this is my first time with sata devices.

Is there any particular sata port that u should plug the Hardrives into (number wise) or the Optical Drive?
Im not intending to use raid.

Also there are 2 different controllers on the board, 2 Ports highlighted in purple and the other 6 in yellow.
what is the difference between them?

Thanks

Thanks for the advice,
why did they add two different types to the boards?
Also what u advise for drive arrangement ie which port would u plug the os Hardrive into and then the storage & optical drive into or dose it not make any difference.

Thanks

My New Rig

Hi Guys,

I have just bought the following bits to go into my Antec P180 case, which I should get built about the middle of the week.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 iP35
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Zalman CNPS9500-LED
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)
BFG 8800GTS OC2 320MB GDDR3
Antec NEO HE500GB 500W Modular PSU
HP W2207 22" Widescreen TFT Monitor

I just wanted to ask a few questions -

1. I will be looking to overclock (for the first time ever) this system, I what order should I overclock the parts?

2. What BIOS is the best to use? I have been to the Gigabyte site to download all drivers btw. I just wanted to know if the latest was the best.

3. What are the best programs to stress test my system once up and running? Prime 95?

Thanks in Advance.

anyone on this board GA-965P-DS3 overclocking a Q6600 and getting good results? or is quad on this a dud after reading http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77619

im worried as i would like to buy one i know my dual goes up to 430fsb on that board stable with 4gb ram
I'm interested in this as well as I'm thinking of uprgading my CPU from my sturdy old e4300. I'm a bit loathe to shell out for a new motherboard and it seems to me that I should be able to drop the above CPU in - at least from Gigabytes website. But I would also like ot hear from anyone with actual experience of this combination and the results obtained. That linked thread has me worried though.:(

Hi, just want to get some things streight.

the only differences between the DS3R Rev 1 and 2 mobo's is usb ports and removal of serial printer port?

Also will my Crucial Ballistix PC5300 667Mhz (2x 1gb 2x 512mb) be fine with this motherboard.

WDC320GB SE16, will this HDD be fine working on this motherboard too?

thanks
will.

Ah good, well I've ordered one, hopefully I'll be a happy gigabyte customer :p.

I just hope my memory will be fine, is it ok flashing the Bios with CD's or in Windows as I dont have a floppy drive anymore.

I used a USB memory stick and the QFlash option in the bios, realy easy and explains how to do it in the manual.

I was on a P35 DS3R from F3 to F6.

The G0 Q6600 works fine in the P965 DS3 from the F12 BIOS. The article liked above is based on a B3 Q6600 using the F11 BIOS.

From my own experiences I was able to run my B3 Q6600 at 2.97ghz on F11. I didn't get the chance to test F12 as I changed to a P35 DS3P three days before F12 was released, but the general consensus is that F12 enabled the FSB to be clocked over 370mhz (or over 3.33ghz).

How has the mobo been for you? Is yours the one with DDR3 slots? The bios looks confusing on this motherboard.

yep its simple to flash i done it last night and i dont know why i thought if he dies he dies (from rocky lol)

really simple stick the file with the bios(example dgdsdhd.F12) and run the Qflash bios update) tho remember to set it to fail safe default's first and then optimized defaults one the flash is sucessful

gfx scores in 3d mark jumped and gave a 500 point increase but cpu score remained the same and so did overclocking ability.

for a core 2 duo its been a fantastic little motherboard 430fsb with 4gig of ram it used to do 440fsb with 2gb and all with hardly any volts.

tbh cob tho i really duno what to do mate if i didnt get at least 3.2 from the G0 id prob be ragin its a lot of money to drop in and hope G0 + F12 play nice.

either wait now for penyrn +get a new mobo neways or buy the G0 if it wont oc buy a newer mobo just for it :(

You got a DS3R? they fully support penryn from what I thought and DDR3, I guess PCI-E 2.0 cards will work properly in them too so should be no need to upgrade for soem time, I'm waiting for the citylink guy to come with me mobo, hatee been up this early in holidays.

What Bios you got? F4? it looks like thats the latest one.

I Have 2 x Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804) for my motherboard P35C DS3R and it all runs fine but i just noticed that the
Voltage is 2.2V. Will my motherboard automatically detect this or do i have to change somehting and if so dose make any difference?

Thanks

You got to up the memory voltage to +0.4V I think.
