Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

Yes 0.3+ I have it set at.

Bear in mind what Yantorsen said on the last page of this thread, about some P35C-DS3R's overvolting the RAM by +0.1v. So by giving it +0.3v you might actually be putting 2.2v through your RAM rather than 2.1v. You could try putting +0.1v and +0.2v through it, although from what dokko is saying it could be dead.

Be aware that some GA-P35C-DS3R's overvolt the RAM by 0.1v.

I think you are right about this mate.

If speedfan - core2 is the voltage like a few have suggested then you are correct.

It showed 2.2 whereas in my BIOS its 1.8 with 0.3+ meaning 2.1.

I dropped it to 0.2+ in the BIOS, started up Speedfan and it is now in fact showing 2.1v, so i reckon you are spot on there.

Still i don't think i've tried the memory since it tolerance is higher 2.3v IIRC, i've not oc'd the mem either, just think i had a dodgy stick from the start (explains all the bloody resets) and it finally died on me yesterday.

Still not sure if i should get the XMS2 6400 or stick with the GeiL and have 4gb when the dodgy stick comes back???

I've noticed when I have my external (!) usb dvdwrite turned on or my ipod dock usb plugged in when booting it will not go past the bios post when overclocked, it will hard-reboot and go to default settings. No problem with USB keyboard+mouse :S is this common on a P35-DS3 rev1.0?

Hi.

I have a DQ6 with Quad 6600 and OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2048) NVIDIA SLI - Ready Edition DDR2 PC2 6400 800MHz Dual Channel EPP 5-4-4-15 kit.

When I check in Vista (although I know it's rubbish) the score for the memory is 5.5 with everything else being 5.9.

Does anyone know how to improve this - is it just the memorys maximum score it can achieve or should I have gotten 8500 memory?

Does anyone have any recommendations on BIOS settings (i.e. not for overclocking just for general use?)/

Thanks,

M.

Mate, to be honest. I wouldn't care to much about the vista rating :) Sometimes it's just a load of bullcrap:o

I know. I just wondered why it would lower my memory score (seems very strange) I was more concerned about creating a bottle-neck as well.

Anyway, more importantly, is there any settings people can recommend for the BIOS. Talk about confusing in there! Also is there a way to stop the screen where it detects the DVD drive and says press any key to continue?

Cheers,

M.

Hmm, maybe that has to do with the boot order, set your HD with XP/Vista on as first boot priority :) Or maybe you have some raid thingy on?

Btw, if I can't get higher then 3200Mhz on a E2160 (9x356) Would that mean I also can't run a Q6600 more then 3.2Ghz? I can't run 8x400 (also for some reason not 8x356 or 7x356). Would this maybe happen because I have a v1.0 P35-DS3?

Help. I have purchased P35 DS3P and 2x2GB OCZ ram with Quad Q6600. I cannot even get windows installed. Temps seem fine in bios, all fans working, post screen etc, but system hangs at DMI Pool message or installs Vista very slowly and then hangs at blank screen at end of install!!! Running F8 latest bios, SATA DVD, Raptor SATA HD.

Which version of windows?

Have you installed the SATA driver (Vista will pick up most but installing a driver which came with your motherboard would be better).

Check the memorys seated correctly as well.

Remove one memory stick and try again.

Vista can have issues with 4gb, and often needs to be installed with only 2gb and then sorted with this hotfix once Vista is installed.

Quick question: Does the DS4 Rev 2.0 have the wierd CrazyCool heatsink on the back of the motherboard? The website doesn't mention it in either the manual or on the page, but one review I've seen has a picture of it, whilst most others have only reviewed Rev 1.0 with the massive heatsink setup.

If it is on the Rev 2.0, will I still be able to use HSFs that require a backplate? Thanks guys!

I'm due to get this board on Monday :D And just wanted to know whether these OCing instructions in the main post are still relevant?

Clocking
1. Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers and flash the board to the most recent bios version
2. On the main bios screen press Ctrl+F1 to open the advanced options within the menus
3. In the Advanced Bios Features Menu, Disable all of the following: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function
4. In the PC Health Status menu, set the FAN Speed Control Method to "Legacy" & FAN Speed Control Mode to "PWM" to maintain highest speed
5. Go into the MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) menu at the bottom of the page, set the System voltage control to "Manual"
6. These boards have a default VDIMM of 1.8v, set the VDIMM to co-ordinate with your ram. The Geil I have is specced as 2.1v so I have mine set to +0.3v
7. Set the MCH Voltage to +0.1v
8. Set the FSB Voltage to +0.1v
9. Set the VCORE to 1.45v - Please be aware that this will increase temps!
10. Set the CPU Host Clock Control to "Enable"
11. Set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x"
12. You're set to go, just increase the System bus Frequency to Overclock
13. I would reccommend that you use Intels TAT to monitor temps

to get 5.9 for your memory you need to run it at a 1:1 ratio with you're FSB.

eg. FSB 400mhz, you would need the memory at 800mhz pc6400.
