Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1080 Review - Plus Doom Giveaway

Might want to do a new shiny build like me with a 6850K to go with the Gigabyte G1 gaming 1080 and a big thanks to Bailey and Stig for the help and giveaway that I am throwing in with this vid. Not really anything to do with GPUs but my thread so meh! :D

Gregster, have you checked for coil whine/buz with the G1? I seen some reports on reddit but they could just have bad luck.

On my Corsair 750 (HX I think) it was awful and really couldn't game with it but switching PSU to my EVGA G2 1300W Supernova, none at all. Strange but someone else had the same thing, did what I suggested and gone but somebody else also tried and still had the whine, so yer, a bit of bad luck if you get one with whine.

And nothing MSI in this build at all :(

Agreed, I must have had 20 top-end cards on this psu and never noticed any whatsoever!!! Or I must be a bit mutton :D

Man, your dog really loves you. :)

Nice review again Greg, and it tickled me to bits that you actually did show Amber, she's lovely.

I have an older Dog as well (a lab and German Shepherd cross) who is huge and she still tries to climb on my lap when it is walkies time :D but proper lazy and very fat (like me) :D

Nice review Greg! Finally got to watch it and it was the first thing i did this morning LOL sad i know :D

Anyway i think your review was quite good! would have liked to see what you got on stock speeds on division first then see what you got after your over clocking afterwards. Apart from that wasn't much else i could say on the video :)

Not really related to the video though i am surprised your G1 only manages to get to around 2050 stable. I would have be expecting it to hit around the 21xx area. Is this on stock voltage?

Yer, stock volts and there is 100Mhz available but not sure if it is applying and most don't bother with volts, so I feel it would be a bit disingenuous to add volts to get higher clocks. I am really happy with the clocks and those hitting 2.1Ghz, I would be surprised if that is 24/7 stable like my 2050Mhz but quite possible.

I guess I'd suggest a little more scripting. When you talk about the tech side you are obviously very comfortable and the info flows well. Also people are always going to be interested in overclocking above what the card will do, what voltages etc it took to get there and temps.

It's important to have end user reviews as it's much more real world than the big youtubers. Jaystwocents has just realised that he was sent a review card which had a faster clock speed than the retail version because it had a different bios.

Good luck. I'll subscribe to your channel on YouTube (already own doom)

Nice to see someone like me,a normal guy in the street so to speak doing this stuff(albeit we are all pc geeks to some extent, and new hardware is cool),really impressed with your reviews and thoughts, thank you,oh,and my 6 tear old granddaughter loved Amber.

Refreshing to not have a 20 year old American shouting at me and starting every video with the obligatory techo intro and "WHAT'S UP YOUTUBE?!"

The only thing that jumps out at me regarding improvements is that when you were reeling off all the stats for the 1080 it just sort of goes straight over my head when I've got to take it in aurally. Others might disagree but I'd prefer just having the specs on screen on the video and then you talking about the most important ones.

I have tried scripting and it doesn't work for me and I end up stuttering far more than I do in my vids and I have a plan of how I will start and end and that is it really. I am sure I could be far more professional but I am a guy like all of us geeks, who goes to work, married with kids and pays for all of my hardware, so I actually like the way I am. I am quite comical (or try to be) in real life, so maybe transport more of that across? But there is some really good and easy suggestions here that are things I would like to do more of. I have a fairly decent and short intro now that I really like and will use that for all my vids from now on but I don't think I will be green screening, purely because I feel it would be false and I have a tiny room with little space that so many of us have and I hope others can relate and see how it is for me and relate to it (if that makes sense?).

I really appreciate all the comments and suggestions though and I have picked up in the last 2 weeks from 320 to 420 subscribers, which isn't a lot but for little fat me, it is a good sign. I wish I could give all who commented a copy of Doom but sadly not but you have all been stars and I have taken a lot of your suggestions on board and will try and improve over time. Like all of us though, I play games and have fun at the end of it and enjoy gaming with others, so I hope I keep the "guy in the pub" attitude but improve on some of the basics.

Hey Greg!

Just stumbled upon this new review, nice! Some idea that may or may not be useful:

Decor: perhaps a somewhat brighter room and different backdrop (I did see a Green screen being suggested earlier; that would do nicely).

Maybe you could add in some personal thoughts e.g. why you think the 1080 is a poorer overclocker as compared to previous generations? It's one of the biggest 'issues' being raised currently.

Be mindful of the "...eh's..." (extremely difficult, I know buddy :) )

Keep up the enthusiasm and non-scripted reviews!

If I can get the group together tonight you'll be summed for CS CM :D
