Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1080 Review - Plus Doom Giveaway

I currently have 2 x R9 280x's in crossfire, Would a single gtx1080 be a decent soloution to replace them and not loose any performance. I've had a google for some comparisons but it seems no-one has done any that i can find.
Would you mind testing Arma 3 if you have that?
TIA

2 280s is about the same as a 980 gtx. so it would be a nice step up.as greg says arma 3 is very cpu intensive and not only that server side performance is also relative.

Pretty good review, a few more games being shown could be good as well but other than that it was nice seeing the game being played for a decent length to see any issues or tearing etc. (wasn't any of course).

Worth the watch.

It'll blow you away ;)

I find it hard to believe that The Division is fully maxed out in that video at 1440p and you are pulling those frame rates.

Are you telling me that Ambient Occlusion technique is on HBAO+, Lens Flare is On, Post FX AA is on SMAA 1XUltra, Shadow quality is on NVIDIA HFTS etc?

I will do a vid once I have finished setting up this new PC and show you the settings used. Might take a while, as I have a crap ton of stuff that needs installing but yer, I was shocked in truth.

Awesome, sounds like the card for me then! I have an i7 4770k @ 4.8 so that should last me a little while longer.
I look forward to more videos going up.

Can't watch right now because the WiFi and mobile Internet are not very good where I am right now in ibiza :-( but I am subbed so ill watch when I get home sat most likley. I liked your other reviews so cnt wait to see this one!

Good in depth review, on what you could improve - i'd have to say pacing. If you could 'streamline' it a bit more, keep it going a bit quicker that would be something I personally would like to see.
Oh and as others have said, a better mic could do wonders too - and benchmark comparison graphs!

Now, sign me up for that DOOM raffle :D

Hey Gregster,

I say keep your vids as they are,

Ok maybe an quick intro graphic as others have mentioned, however how your videos are shot make you. A man of the people so to speak. Not someone in a bespoke review room with tons of kit to play around with, you're like a mate down the pub offering your opinion which I respect more, this coupled with your knowledge that you offer up on the forums.

It really depends on what you want to do with your reviews, if you want to carry on doing it on the side of a job then stay as you are.

If you want to try to make a living out of it then a lighter painted room, fancy intro, music, being stood behind a desk, shelving behind you with boxes of current product on it and become one of the many trying to be what they are not.

I say carry on as you are :)

Would love a copy of Doom btw

All the best.

Great video mate, and a nice comprehensive review as well.
There is however a couple of things I think you could do to improve them.
First of all you could maybe try and setup a presentation background for your talking to camera sections of the video, even if it's you standing against a plan painted wall or sat on a chair in front of said wall. Maybe you could have the graphics card in your hands and do a quick walk round of it, stating build quality and the things you like and don't like about it etc etc.

Also with regards to the presentation, maybe stick some stat pages in there or some bar graphs to show standard clocks vs overclocked clocks etc, so people can see what sort of percentage overclock you managed to get from your card.

Overall though great video buddy, and I'll be subscribing to your channel :D

Oh and I'd love to be in with a chance to win Doom :p

I know it's been said a million times already but you definitely need to go more games!

I'd also suggest having the lighting a little better.

The issue with "overkill" is that anyone using a 1080p (60Hz) monitor and thinking about a 1080 would have a better gaming experience with a 1440p monitor and a lesser card.

Anyway great and concise review, subscribed!

The games I can do and deffo will be adding some Excel graphs next time :) Not sure on the lighting, as I am really limited on room but I know what you mean.

Cheers and yer, Overkill for sure but you do then have the option of buying a bigger res screen and not worry about needing a new/another GPU.
