Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87

Are there any release notes on this?
I may install it soon, just wondered what the difference was. if its just system compatibilty I won't bother as I dont have issues with this

Well I thought I would update anyway, that wasted a while lol, it wont let me load my profile it just freezes, so I thought oh well I will set it up all again manually, then you can't exit and save the bios, the exit button doesnt do anything.
So I reflashed again and it still wont let me exit the bios, so flashed back to F2 and all is ok again, think I will give that one a miss

Anyone noticed any difference updating the BIOS? I'm still on F1.

Im on F3b, there is a new sub menu under the performance tab I think it is, cant remember exactly what or where it is, it was something I wasn't going to use anyway.

On a negative side, I did find a problem with it where inside UEFI bios mode you cant save and exit your settings, the button doesn't work, after setting up you need to switch to classic mode to save and exit, reported it back to Gigabyte, still waiting for them to fix this one.

On a plus side, its a lot more stable, allowed me to push my CPU further and no more post hangs, so defo improved stability there.

Yeah I had the problem where you couldn't save your settings, I didn't think to switch mode, after flashing a couple of times I gave up and went back to F2.
F3 is setup a little different if I remember rightly.
But F1 to F2 I didnt notice any difference tbh.

I tried F3b, i didn't notice the save bug mainly due to not liking the main bios and always switch to classic mode.
The voltage seems a lot different, previous bios i was running in turbo mode with +0.020v.
With the same settings Vcore was higher so no longer needed any offset.

question for sniper owners

Does the audio output (from the back) have any hiss or is the audio clear once volume is turned up ?

I ask since someone said a few pages back the front output while amped still had a hiss noise. Was thinking of saving 120 quid from getting an headphone usb dac for my AKG K550 headphones:)

The problem is with front outputs that the wire acts like an antenna all the way from the bottom rear of the board, usually past the PSU at the bottom of most cases, then passing up inside the case and out at the front.

God knows what interference and crap this cable picks up along the way from other sources.

I tend to ignor front ports, the one on the back is generally cleaner with less hiss, but I don't know if the sniper boards back sound output is hiss free. Maybe a sniper owner will confirm if it is.

On mine the rear has a really bad buzz. But the front Has it slightly but when it's turned up you can't really has it. I emailed gigabyte and they sent me a new BIOS but it's still the same and it won't let me oc the CPU at all without it failing to boot so I changed it again. Ït just seems like there is too much gain there to me à as you have to turn it right down both in game and in windows. But it might just be me I have tried gigabyte and windows drivers with no change.

Thanks for the reply

I had suspected this when the mention of the hiss issue from few pages back. The sniper has that headphone amp so its really amping any interference also which is already present.

I often wondered about all these claims from mobos claiming to have clean and non interference and "shielded" sound with separate circuits etc.... but then people can still hear slight or same hiss !

I hear the same issues apply to USB dac owners where a slight hiss can be heard but be it very drastic reduced compared to onboard/dedicated soundcards on pcs so sadly one would always have some hiss. Would have been great if someone tested the clean power usb port on the sniper to see if it worked cleaner and better with usb dac/headphone amps.

I have to give it to them, they are helping me try and sort it out, they have even given me F3b bios which I will have to try later.
Im so glad I went Gigabyte :D

All this buzzing people are hearing strikes me as a manufacturing error as I have no buzz from back/front or DAC out connections. I've tried it with my Sennheisers and SR80i Grados and apart from having to turn the volume down and tweak the bass it's been fine.

It certainly doesn't seem as loud as it was now. Although I noticed that I can hear it in the BIOS, so seems like interference from something, whether it is other bits or the motherboard itself is another matter though.
I would like to think it wasn't my PSU or GPU though as there not exactly cheap budget ones, but its still possible I suppose.
Although theres no noise if I remove the PSU :P
