**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

I've requested a RMA for return under DSR - as not suitable- is this the correct reply I've had?

Problem / Fault description: Unwanted [Minor Defects], Desired action: Refund,

Ijust don't want the card to be tested- find no faults and returned to me

I just want no test and straight refund as withint he 7 days

cheers

Are you using a duel monitor setup ?

if i have both the benq XL2410T and the Dell Ultrasharp on at the same time i get idle temps the same as you around 60c etc but if i just run the Benq i get idle of 48c

Rutz I certainly do...hold on and I'll disconnect the HDTV and see how things go, good shout :)

Idling anywhere around 45-48 Degrees C now all because I'm not hooked up to an additional monitor...good man Rutz :D

Your welcome mate
Amazing differance in temps with just the one monitor :D

I think the problem was I'm used to the ATi/AMD way, multimontior doesnt = extra temp...didn't think my case was that big an issue haha!

Cheers though, seems with an extra display NV cards like to churn out all sorts of heat

Much happier due to the idles and my god does it run so sweet in Crysis Warhead with 8xAA compared to my 5870 which struggled badly with AA on.

Also Crysis 2 runs sweetly on it too of course :D

I was really puzzled at my temps then i unplugged my dell ultrasharp as i was moving the monitor around and i noticed the temps had dropped so i plugged it back in again and see my temps sky rocket to 60+c so i turned it off and i see the temps drop again i was like WOW

So now i just use the benq monitor and all is good at 48c

I get that idle temp with another 480 card underneath so i recon if i took the
2nd card out i would get lower temps for sure but i like the sli config and that temp is not bad at all

Load i get 70+c in games 81c at max in games and 85c in heaven after around 4 bench tests, with a top score of 2221

Cant wait for crysis to be released tomorrow that will be my weekend sorted

I had RMA webnote back today - but siding on just living with lower clocks now as I really not sure what I'd replace it with . I'll get a new PSU next month and if no go - I'll RMA direct to Gigabyte I think

its odd this card - probably same with all 480s - but in benchmarks its slower than my overclocked 570 was

BUT - in games - especially with 8xAA and above its way way smoother experience - just cause 2 on the 570 felt laggy with 8xAA on - the 480 SOC feels smooth as silk with 16xQAA on - afterburner shows memory usage only 850MB - so must be the memory bandwidth of the 480 I guess ?

Very strange, I have the same thing. 2 monitors and I idle around 60c, disable one of the monitors and then it is straight down to the mid 40's.

I Setup my new Gigabyte 480 Soc today.

get errors in occt gpu test straight away. when i run heaven 2.5 at max settings i dont notice any artifacts.

should i rma the card ?

im using a xfx pro core 750 psu

With multi-monitor or at a screen res over 1600x900 my 470 & 480 both run at 405mhz.
With 1 monitor it downclocks to 51mhz which is imprtant to me as the 470 is in a htpc/server.

not sure 50:50 could be the graphics card or the PSU

I'm in similar situation - not sure if graphics card or PSU :( I'd dropped clocks to 775 and all seems well- ok not as advertised - but still good value

as said previously may get a PSU next month - andi f not fix the problems RMA direct to Gigabyte as apparently only a few days turnaround

Just watched your video of heaven, if that was my card it would definitely be going back. You can always order another one after refund confirmation if you like it that much.

^^I hear you - just lots (relatively) seem to have similar situation - so could be our PSUs after all - or if not - I've just as much chance of getting a 2nd unstable anyway

I've afternoon off tomorrow - I'll contact Gigabyte and see what they say - they must have sold a whole batch of these recently - sound them out to why we're having issues - must be a good 5 or us on here now at least - maybe more - all seems a bit odd- almost as if we're missing something as I can't believe they're all faulty

on Gigabytes website they spec minimum of 650W PSU ...

Yep, mine did that at first in Heaven but worse with big green sarbursts, but OCUK tried it in their test rig and they said there were no artifacts.
What are we supposed to do?

or perhaps a load have bugs in their bioses ? I mean 1.038 V seems low to me for 820

perhaps we could do another thread - with 5 questions:

we may then get something to go on

(1) Stock Volts

(2) Bios version

(3) OCCT stable ?

(4) Heaven stable ?

(5) PSU make and model

If it says 650W then that's what should run it out of the box, simple as that. If you can dsr it, don't get it tested(again if you already have).

If it's past dsr'ing then the goods did not fit the description they were sold at.

There clearly must be some kind of fault as there are too many people here having similar problems.

Regarding oc testing your card on a 850W psu, tell them to re-test it on a 650W one as the card should run on it without any problems.

Buckster did your 570 die? I'm asking as I'm wondering how you went from 570 to 480.

tommyboy - no - my 570 was fine - but I like flight sims with lots of AA applied and it seemed to keel over a bit with higher levels of AA - so decided to go for bandwitdh and extra memory of a 580 .... this offer then came up and was too tempting for near 580 performance at 140 pounds less

so far definately noticing that games are running smoother than the 570 - even if benchmarks aren't as quick

actually gigabytes website states for the SOC a 600W PSU + 2x 6 pin PCI-E power cables ..

That's what makes me think that there is a problem with the card.
That's gigabytes recommendation and it isn't enough for yours.

Longevity must surely also come into your equation as well in regards to keeping it as, if you have to rma it in the future(which I'm almost sure you will have to) then they will probably replace it with a 570 as they won't have any left. Which leaves you with what you had(I'm presuming you sold your 570 at a loss to get the 480).

I hear what you are saying

I'd argue that I bought it for the GPU mem - so they have to replace with a 580 - even if I had to contribute a small amount I guess - Gigabyte tend to very good on RMAs
