**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

True, but I've got a 480 in mine and still don't have the molex plugged in. It's probably there in case you run crossfire, although why you'd want to when the other lane only runs at x4, I dont know...

that said the P965 chipsets really have stood the test of time- I still find my overall setup not far off current - ok I'd like a super quick 4.4gig Sandy - but all in all the Q OC'd on a decent mobo is pretty quick

I have to agree. Mine is running my q6600 at 3.6 and has been since I got it some time ago. It's been a great board, very solid. That said, I wouldn't mind a sandy set up either but after just forking out nearly £400 on new gpu and monitor, it's gonna have to wait.

Buckster, i would consider a silverstone 1kw PSU if I were you as they are roughly the same price as Corsair 850s and are still amazing quality with 100% modular. More than enough power and a good investment in the future.

I got my replacement today. Ran occt gpu test and it artifacts in under a minute. I also ran a crisis benchmark with 10 loops. Crashed on the 8 loop.

My heads wreaked after receiving 2 faulty cards. Should have just bought a 580 with cost of postage this card is going to end up costing me the same amount of money.

Are we sure that OCCT is correct? Heaven ran perfectly fine - games are running perfectly fine. I don't get it.

OCCT is probably correct - but it just taxes far in excess of anything else

not only does it TAX the GPU and every ounce within it @ 100%

but also that draws a lot of power on the 480 series - way more than you'd ever get to in games

570/580 have power limiters that automatically detect when OCCT running and reduces power and performance

I guess in theory its easier to be "stable" in OCCT with a 5 series than a 4 series

thing is - if it doesn't artefact in games - is it a problem ?

its annoying granted - but a problem ? probably not

I can't get OCCT stable near the SOC clock speeds, but for games etc (with a slight bump over stock) its fine

thing is OCCT draws so much power - its also probably taxing your PSU

my 570 was fine in OCCT - but was power limited, who knows if it would have passed ok with power limiter removed (which you can do at YOUR high risk ...), and whether my PSU would have coped without the power limit in place - even with the 570

You've hit the nail on the head mate, and this is what I'm thinking about. It isn't a problem for me no, as I rarely benchmark anyway, but I'm always thinking about resale - and the fact that I haven't really got what I paid for. Plus it may eventually throw a fit in something that comes along - but the 3 year warranty is good, and at the end of the day I wont have this for 3 years anyway regardless. I guess I could take the hit.

Interesting what you say about power draw - I'm using a OCZ 750w with mine.

700W Tagan here ..... I'm not sure 700/750W is enough - maybe enough for gaming but not for OCCT strains ...

yes it not running quite right is annoying - and to be honest over last few weeks RMAs and stuff - done my head in a bit - BUT when it comes down to it - even if you run it at stock clocks (which I'm not - I'm part way between stock and SOC) - a GTX480 with a decent cooler, 3 yr warranty, is not bad for sub £240 :) - IMO anyway

if I did it again - I'd get the 480 SE

Interesting. Well maybe that's all it is down to eh? Would be nice to know. I'll have to try it some more in games and see what I think.

I got this for £218 which is a great price all things considered. But it is my second one! And there is a certain amount of hassle involved with this.

^^ Griffin - whats your PSU ?

XfX pro core 750w

This is a very good psu seasonic in fact.

Its the looped crysis benchmarks that worry me the most.

To ocuk refund postage costs. It's ridiculous to spend all this money and the pay extra case they keep sending faulty cards.

Some people on the forums are using 650w psus and are stable.

I'll try looped Crysis tonight and se what I get

XFX 750W should be enough as you said its a Seasonic inside

I was looking at the 850W XFX Black

I noticed the 620W PSUs which were stable with the card all seemd to be Corsairs ...

Seriously, stop kidding yourself. If it isn't stable in OCCT it isn't stable.

The very fact you can downclock your card and it WILL pass shows you that it is the card that just isn't capable. Not to mention that other people here who DO have stable SOC's can run OCCT and it'll finish error free show that OCCT is not some ridiculous test that is unpassable.

Nothing to do with the power its drawing or anything else. It just isn't stable at its stock clocks.

And as someone mentioned earlier, they looped crysis, if you'd just looped it for 5 tests it'd have passed and you'd think, "Ha, stupid OCCT, it's obviously fine!", however as they found out it crashed on loop 8...

The card is unstable, it could crash in the first 10 seconds, or it might last a good hour, but eventually it will crash, and depending on the game, and the stress the card is under it could crash a whole lot more often.

And there are games that stress your card as much as OCCT. Metro 2033 will, Crysis 2 certainly does. My 480 got hotter in Crysis 2 than it did in OCCT. I was hitting 95C in Crysis 2.

HEX what you are saying is correct - BUT OCCT still draws more power than any game I play

and could be pushing PSUs too far which are stable with games

ie its trying to draw too much power - more than the PSU can cope with

OcUK received my SOC back under RMA yesterday and I've just received an email saying that they will replace it. I'm impressed with their turaround time. Keeping my fingers crossed that the next one isn't a dud!

They told me the same but when I still hadn't received the card 9 days later send a webnote. Was then told they had none stock. I then replied with a link to store page which had stock at 10 +. And then when I final get a replacement its also faulty.

first time purchase from ocuk. it looks like it will be the last
